2005 Jinma 184
I have a Jinma 184, 18hp, does anyone know of a small hay rake to fit this small tractor. I only have 5 acres, and maybe a few more if I could rake it up.

Thanks.

A towed, ground-driven wheel rake (V rake with six small wheels) or a towed, ground-driven bar rake (side delivery rake) would work with your tractor.

I pull an old, ground-driven side delivery rake with my Ford 1510 (22hp) and it works like a dream! I have no doubt your Jinma could do the same with a similar rake. Those old relics can often be had for a song. All mine needed was some tire slime, a little grease and a few tines.

As you can see in the pics from my thread, http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/haying/258522-old-hay-rake-works-like.html it's a full sized rake being used on a 6 acre field... about the size you're talking about.

I thought it was amusing that at the end of that thread you asked about suggestions for easy ways to smooth out your field and suddenly no more responses. Did you ever figure out that little issue?

I'm thinking I'll mow it, then disc it enough to knock down the high spots and fill in the low spots. Probably finish with a spike-tooth harrow. This will most likely rip things up real good, which will mean reseeding. Meanwhile, before I get to all that, I'll take some soil samples to be tested so I can see what kind of nutrients I need to add to the soil. Because of the location of the field (right next to a swamp) it'll be almost impossible to do any work on it in the spring, so I'm thinking of frost seeding in the late winter/early spring before the ground thaws.

Still not set in stone, but that's my initial plan.

Thanks for sharing that - I learn from things like this.

We have run our 18' 4 basket tedder behind our B7500 which has ~15 PTO hp. We also pull a rollbar rake behind it with no problems.

When we first got started haying, we had a small pto driven side delivery rake. Don't remember the name, but it was blue [I think. This was over 30 years ago]. We used a small tractor to pull it. I'll look for it the next time I'm up at the old place.
