slow mowing with a carboni 5' rear mower.

i mowed my grass with my tractor for the first time today,, just got it yesterday,(my first tractor) wow this thing has to go very slow for a good cut . it is a kubota l3000f with a carboni rear mower, i had a dixie chopper 72" zero turn, before so maybe im spolied, but i can only put it in 2nd gear and run at 2100 rpm, any faster and the blades dont spin fast enough?? and leaves grass patches ,,maybe the blades are dull? should i be able to go faster and still have a good cut??( the guy i got it from said to not exceed 2100 rpm)?? is there a better faster mower attachment for this tractor? are belly mowers better? and can you get one for this tractor, sorry for all the questions but i dont have anyone else to ask. by the way im on a dirt road and my yard is "rural" i dont need it to look like a golf corse , so a few scalps here and there no problem. thanks.

I've always been able to go faster than I wanted to with RFM's. The limiting factor was how bad I wanted to beat up my body or the tractor. Just getting used to the L3200HST / 72"RFM. With this combo I can run at something under 2000 RPM's in mid range with the go pedal all the way down. To go any faster, I'd need a smoother yard.

You need to run at or near max engine rpm to get 540 pto rpm at the rear finish mower. Your rear finish mower requires 540 input rpm to get the rated designed blade speed for best cut. Do you have a tachometer? There should be a mark that shows where the engine needs to run speed wise to get 540 pto rpm. I have to run my L3940 engine at 2650 rpm to get 540 pto rpm for my rear finish mower. I normally cut at 4.5 mph. Read your tractor manual, this will be covered in there. Philip.

Minor correction: You have an Italian made rear mounted finish mower and it is a Caroni. I have one. These mowers are solid. There should be a mark on your RPM tractor gauge that tells you when your PTO is running at 540. (as others have stated)

Run your tractor, as others have said, at the rpm where you get 540 rpm's at the PTO...
I have a 6' Woods RFM pulled my my NH 1720 that is 28 HP and rated @ 23.5 at the PTO...
I typically mow in 2nd range 3rd gear to get an acceptable quality of cut...
I can mow in 2nd range 4th gear but the speed is too fast and the mower tends to clump more...
I can tell you that my 6' RFM takes considerably more power to turn than my older 5' RFM...
My old YM1700 Yanmar pulled it effortlessly...
That tractor only had 20 HP and 17 HP @ the PTO...
That 6' RFM is all my NH wants...

I have also seen the blades installed upside down and backwards. 540 PTO speed and sharp correctly installed blades will produce an outstanding cut with a Caroni mower.
