My 33D is SO slow in reverse that I get impatient and run around in circles rather than backing up.
I use my box blade quite a bit and the more I learn the more time I spend BACKING UP, pushing to level.
I drove a rented JD that was on our worksite last week and it was easily twice as fast in reverse, nothing crazy or dangerous, but liveable. Not at all like my 33.
Even in mid-range it's barely moving in reverse. Takes FOREVER to push back to the property line for finish grade.
Is this in anyway adjustable? Is my 33 unusual, or are they all painfully slow in reverse? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I would say something is wrong, it should be nearly as fast in reverse as forward in each range.
Look over the linkage under deck to see if anything is binding them.
If everything looks good I'd call dealer or stop by and drive another one to check speed.

Your tractor might be slightly slower in reverse, but not due to the hydrostatic transmission. Certainly, if it is "painfully" slow, you need a pedal adjustment. You can look under your platform while the tractor is off and move your pedals. You will probably see there is an adjustable stop for the reverse direction. I'm not sure of the exact location on the TC33D, but maybe someone with a TC33D will give you that info. If not, I think I'd talk to my dealer's service manager and ask him how it is done.

I'll bet, like jinman said, it's a simple pedal adjustment under the deck. I think the customary adjustment is set for reverse to go about half the speed of forward in that particular gear range, but you can change that.

Bird and Jinman are right.. on my 35D.. there are adjusting bolts that limit how far the Hydro pedals can be depressed.. maybe your reverse pedal bolt has loosened.. and has raised up. Crank it down a few turns.. then try it.

Not sure about some of the newer ones, but on the earlier hydros if cruise was engaged, reverse was slower than turtle.
Side note- used a JD410 last Saturday. Maybe it was a little better than my case /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Could be I just liked the a/c and the radio in the cab though. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Look on the top of the operator deck. There is a bolt under the reverse pedal that cranks up and down. Try moving it down and see if that helps.

Also, I was adjusting the pedal on my tractor. It was creeping in reverse. As I adjusted it, I over corrected. It would then creep forward and reverse was real slow...like yours. I was really shocked to see how much a little adjustment on the linkage created a huge effect on the travel speed. Every little linkage action creates a bigger speed reaction I guess.

Do you have any forward creep?

Pedal adjustments seem fairly straightforward and I performed all mine above the foot deck, right beside the steering column.

I just did it last week. Send me a private message if you want specific instructions on how to adjust the pedal. Let me know if you have creep or not.

There is an adjustment on the rocker pedal for the 33D. Mine runs about 3/4 as fast in reverse as in forward. If your's is real slow I would try adjusting the limit bolt to see if that fixes it, if not then I'd call the dealer. There's a spec in the manual about how fast it's supposed to go in reverse. I don't have my manual here with me but will look when I get home and see what it's supposed to be.

Mine was extremely slow in reverse also, but that's what the specs called for. I had the dealer adjust mine. It got a little bit better but was still painful. That's why I went green for my next tractor. I couldn't take the slow reverse.

The specs in my NH manual for both th 29 and 33D show

Low 0-3.9 MPH
Low Reverse 0-2.92 MPH
Mid 0-8.09 MPH
Mid Reverse 0-6.07 MPH
High 0-15.59 MPH
High Reverse 0-11.69 MPH

Top speed in Reverse is about 75 percent of the forward speed in each range (if adjusted properly).

I have had some forward creeping issues when the machine is cold, but it still goes PLENTY fast in reverse for me.

YMMV /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
