I have quite a few post holes to dig. My ground is a lot of clay with rocks mixed in. I have tried a 3 point auger and life sucks when it cork screws past a rock and I have to back spin by hand. I thought about getting a skid steer setup and adding third function to my loader. My tractor is a HD12 so it has a 16.1 gpm flow rate. Any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks
P.S. I intend to own a skid steer at some point in my life so this would be more useful down the road.

I have a Danhuser hydraulic auger for my L4060 & it works decent. It's slow & less power than a PTO 3pt, but is superior functionality that makes up for it. It's the one for 10gpm on their site & they have a chart for model to gpm. I got the 2" hex drive instead of the 2.5"ish one. Not sure if one is really any stronger than the other but both are noticably stronger than the 2" round drive PTO augers use.

I even rebuilt my old 3pt PHD to fit on a 3pt QH. It only worked with TnT & had lots of limitations, but had downpressure for the first foot or so. I strapped 200lbs of scrap steel over the gearbox too.

Get the offset SSQA mount. It makes it so much easier to see rather than being hidden behind the hood or killing your neck for a 3pt mounted one.

Downpressure & reverse is nice. Raising or lowering the loader stops the auger from spinning, which is annoying, but not actually that problematic.

Just match the gpm on your tractor to the right PHD motor size. 20170402_145306-1.jpeg20170401_133255-1.jpeg20170401_133249-1.jpegDSC06433.JPGDSC06434.JPG20160828_220700.jpeg

I use a McMillen X1475 on my M7060. I'm pretty happy with the performance.

I built my own Hydraulic. A third of the price, probably even less. Simple to do, For your setup the most expensive thing will be the hoses...

I’m thinking about doing the same, I should get more flow because I’ll use larger hoses.

If you just run hoses from a rear remote, you won’t need to have the third function kit. One of my rear remotes stays detents so it would keep spinning. Potential cost savings for you and it wouldn’t stop spinning when moving the bucket.

I’m really looking hard at the LP hd35, but I can’t find any reviews. I like that it can be centered or offset for skid steer or tractor.
