I just picked up an old snowblower from Pennsylvania. It is a 1997 60" Allied. In really good shape. But it does not have adjustable skid shoes like the newer Allied snowblowers.

Other than ordering the parts from Allied, what other options for adjustable skid shoes are out there. I hear there are some "Bolt-On" shoes that I can put on after drilling a few holes.

Any ideas / help / info on this is appreciated.

Thanks, Tim

Tim contact Woods and ask for part number 120-2-0230 They bolt on , are adjustable, and can be reversed once worn through. Good luck!

Tim,

I have an old Yanmar, 48" snowblower I use on an old MF1010 tractor. It has a steel wheel bolted on each side of the chute, that is positioned so that you use the top link on the three point to adjust the clearance of the scraper. The wheels are apprx. 2" wide X 3 1/2" high. They work great on both asphalt and gravel. I can adjust the top link so that the scraper blade on the bottom of the chute rides right on the ground, or, tilt it forward to give me 1 - 2" of clearance if I use it in gravel/dirt.
If you can find some heavy duty wheels, such as used on industrial casters, it would be easy to bolt one on each side of the chute. If you offset them to the front, or back of the scraper, you can adust your clearance with the top link. They also roll so they don't wear out like steel shoes will.

Just an idea for an easy fix, hope it helps.

Good Luck,
DT

Thanks Guys... Both Good suggestions.

Does anyone have a Phone Number or web site address for "WOODS", so I can check the specifics.

Plus, I'll think about doing the wheels too !

Don't have any sources for adjustable shoes but like DT mentioned you can use your toplink to adjust the tilt of the snowblower thereby adjusting the cutting edge of the blower. This is a great excuse to get a hydraulic toplink /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I use the hydraulic toplink with the snowblower and am able to make adjustments that vary the cutting height of the blower by more than a couple inches. I have adjustable shoes but have never changed/adjusted them after learning how to utilize the toplink (either manual or hydraulic).

This past week I taught my wife how to use the snow blower (and this lesson was over the phone since I was at work and she and a neighbor were both stuck in our driveway in drifting snow). The 15 minute lesson was all she needed and she loved the ability to change the "bite" of the snow blower. Had so much fun that she also did the neighbor's driveway too! Hope I don't lose my seat time! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Tim you could adapt those mushroom shaped skid shoes used on truch plows to your snowblower. You can buy the parts at TCS or a truck parts place. They are fairly reasonable. Some of the snowblower manufacturers parts are sky high. I think there have been posts about this in the past.

Dave I don,t want to worry you but you may have made a little mistake there. What if she didn't think it was too loud or too dirty or smelled bad. Buddy there have been sad stories right here at TBN about guys who showed their wived how to drive their tractors. Man! what are you going to do if she liked it ? Learn to knit? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
