My site glass (hydraulic fluid) is leaking and I am not wanting to sink another $200 in Super UDT fluid in the tractor JUST to change the leaking site glass.

Anyone done a site glass repair/change on one of these? How did you clean up the orifice for the new site glass sufficiently that it would hold silicone sealer to tap in the new site glass?

I plan to park the L36GST on a steep incline to get the site glass "dry" and then pop out the old one with a screw driver and then clean up the hole, but obviously I can't go spraying anying about and I have to very careful to not let any junk fall in while it's open so I'm wondering who here has some experience in this area that they can share?

I think that I would attack this problem the way I attack replacing spark plug threads without removing the head. After you have the old lens out, stuff a clean cotton rag into the hole and then spray all around the hole and clean it with brake cleaner. The type that evaporates is what I would use. Once it is clean all around the hole, then remove the cotton rag and clean the sides of the hole with a bunch of Q tips that have been dipped in the brake cleaner solvent. The nice part is that the solvent will dry and not leave any residue. Install the new lens and hope for the best.

It sounds to me like you now have a game plan. Be aware that all the silicone adhesives that I have worked with take 24 hours to fully cure although they skim dry in about an hour.

Jack the rear end up, clean the surface with brake cleaner and use a good silcone sealer to hold the new glass in place. I would spray the brake cleaner on a rag to keep from getting a lot inside the casting. Shouldn't be a hard repair. Hope this helps.
