What can you all tell me about this tractor?? Looks to be a garden tractor size.. I would just like general info.. Reason i ask is because i have the chance to get one real cheap.. Only catch is i have no idea if it runs.. It is hydrostatic. The engine is a brigs.. The date code says the engine was made in 85.. So that is how old the whole thing is.. The guy said proably hadn't been used since 89, So i am guessing it would be quite hard to wear out one in four years.. I paln on using it to pull things, and maybe mow.

Thanks!!

Snapper,

My father bought a 7114 about the same year (85). It is shuttle drive
and has a Kohler. Other than normal maintenance items, we never had
any problems with it. The 71XX series was the heavier-duty models
of Simplicity. IIRC, there was also a 61XX and 41XX series that were
lighter-duty, and of course, cheaper.

I still use this tractor and would highly recommend it.

The only thing that comes to mind is that if there is a problem with the hydrostatic transmission you could be looking at some $$$. The engine is probably pretty easy to replace, even if it is siezed or something nasty but the trans might be a big issue.

On the other hand, if you can pick it up cheap maybe you'd be able to find a used (whatever is wrong) fairly inexpensively. And if it works right "out of the box" you've got yourself a really nice tractor!

Snapper:

I had a 7119 for 14 years before getting a Kubota compact. It was the same machine, except for a 19 HP twin. It was a great machine that was used for cutting 2 acres, snowblowing a 2000' driveway and much dirt pushing with the blade. It was a good machine, but mine was just getting tired.

Check play in the steering linkage. Other trouble areas are PTO clutch and pulley. I also had to replace the differential after it stripped all its gears.

As a heavy garden tractor, I would call it one of the best. Anything under $750 if it is in good shape w/some accessories is a fair deal.

I've got a Simplicity 7117 Hydrostatic (Which I think is just like a 7116 but with a 17hp Kohler Engine as opposed to a Briggs) that I am looking to sell. It was purchased new in 1990 with a 48" mower deck. I am going to sell with it the following accesories that came along for the ride with a previous Simplicity Soverign that my granfather bought new in 1972 (or therabouts). 42" Snow Blower, Belt PTO driven leaf blower vacuum and 26 bushel cuvered dumping trailer to collect the leaves and grass.

Any idea on what I should be asking for it?

Thanks,

-- Rock
