So I just picked up a new tractor and wanted to get tire sealant in it immediately. I'm using PTO/FEL for ballast and will not be filling the tires. So I picked up three gallons of Multi-Seal 2500 HD at the local John Deere dealer. The going rate, even online, is $60+ a gallon but it's worth it. I hate flat repairs, and being in South Texas we have to deal with cactus and mesquite thorns. I have this in another tractor and have never had a flat ever; before the cheap stuff would leave me with flats regularly.
So this morning I started getting ready to fill the tires and remembered that I had left the sealant in the truck overnight. It was in the upper 30s here early this morning which is cold for this area. That meant the already thick sealant was really thick and was going to be more trouble to pump. So I had this idea... What if I warm it up first?
The wife was asleep still so I filled the kitchen sink up with hot water and submerged all three bottles to the top. I then boiled a few kettles of water and poured those into the sink as well. The resulting temperature was about 140-150 degs F and warmed the goop up nicely after about 30 minutes, greatly lowering its viscosity. One at a time I carried a bottle outside and pumped it into each tire while it was still warm. It flowed like hot buttah.
