Hi All:
I am new to tractors but just pulled the trigger on a used B7610. I am going thru the shakedown to see where I stand and have two observations/questions:

1) The way I read the instruction manual, the glow plug light should come on when I turn the key one notch, regardless of ambient temperature. Mine does not, but ambient temps have been in the 60s. What might be the troubleshooting procedure to determine what's up if the dash indicator should come on when I initially turn the key? Further, how would I troubleshoot to see if the glow plugs are being energized when I turn the key. It has been so warm, the tractor starts rapidly anyway.

2) the only thing I have done to this point is cut one acre of grass with the midmount mower at an ambient temperature of 65 or so. The temp gauge barely came off of "cold". Do these things run cold for a long time after startup without a heavy load or could I possibly have a thermostat stuck open?

TIA

I do not own a b7610 but starting procedures are usually;

Turn key 1 notch
Turn and hold for glow plug operation another notch
Turn 3rd notch to start

Yes they run cold

Did the manual say that the glow plug light would come on, or did it merely say that the glow plug would be initiated upon turning 1 notch?

I dont know about the 7610, but my Kubota L3200 confused me at first, so I asked the dealer about it. I was told (and this seems to hold true) That in really cold weather you turn the key 1 notch to the LEFT and hold it a few seconds which manually warms the glow plugs then turn to the right like normal to start. In warmer weather all you have to do is turn it to the right and the glow plugs automatically "do their thing" and starting is pretty easy. I had that question because the glow plug light never came on during "warm weather" starting, but if I turned that key to the LEFT and held it....the light came on. Kinda struck me as odd, but I havent had any trouble starting it up in cold or warm weather after asking the dealer what was up!:confused3::thumbsup:

Oh, and yes they do run on the cool side all of the time, UNLESS you have a dirty radiator or other cooling problem that causes it to run hot. Mine never moves much over the cold line during any operation even in the heat of the summer 80 to 100 degerees!

Bud......Congratulations on your B7610. For me, it is the best of the lot. YES, I OWN and USE one. The glow plugs are simple to kick in. If you turn the key "ON" to the first notch or just to where it stops normally by turning to the right, all of the bulbs that are indicators come on. NOT THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT........Turning the key all the way to the right, of course, engages the starter and the engine hopefully starts and you release the key and it goes back to the left to the "first" notch. Between the two to the right, is not a "stop"; but let's call it an area where if you hold the key there the glow plug light comes on and when you wait a few seconds, depending upon how cold it is, one is heating up the glow plugs with electrical current. For me, even when the temp is in the 70's first thing in the morning, I count to 5 or so and engage the starter. The other day with the mid 30's I counted to 10 and it fired right up. This system is the same on our RTV 900; but I cannot give any comments on others as I do NOT own one or use one......On my Iseki, as someone above mentioned for the L series one holds the key to the left to engage the current to warm up the glow plugs.

To check the plugs one can use on Ohmeter to see if it is getting voltage when you turn the key PROPERLY. Dont do it to much as yes, one can burn the glow plugs out by getting them to hot.....NO THERE WILL NOT BE A FIRE.............

Yes, the B7610's guage makes them appear to run cold even on hot summer days when bush hogging...............Good luck..............God bless....Dennis

EDIT...........I just walked down to the barn to check out if the key turns to the left, perhaps I have been missing something. NO WAY does it move to the left from the lock position.......

I too own a Kubota B7610. I bought it new in 2004. I had the same question years ago regarding the Temp Gauge barely creeping above the C mark no matter how long it's been running. Glad to see that I am not the only one seeing this as I was beginning to wonder if the dealer might have been pulling my leg when telling me this is completely normal.

I have a B2910 (different engine) ... it too runs pretty cool ... the only time it goes much above "C" is when the grill blocked and needs the grass cleaned off it.
