I've been 'lurking' here for a few months and finally after spending several late nights reading through these posts I have ordered a new L3130DT 4X4 with LA513 loader, 60" tiller and box blade. I have hardly sat still since. The dealer hoped to get it to me in a couple of weeks, but he's having trouble getting loaders. Seems to be a big demand this time of year. I'm not sure I can contain myself longer than 2 weeks.
I had a Yanmar 155D 4X4 (15hp) with bucket, tiller and bush hog for about 6 years. It was amazing what that little thing would do, but pretty tiny in comparison. I used to run CAT 988 loaders and D8 dozers and I really miss the big stuff. That's the 'Tim the Toolman' in me.
I was seriously considering the L3400, but for a couple of grand (Cdn) more, the L3130 seems like much more tractor. Around 660lbs heavier and an extra 1200 lbs lift capacity on the 3ph, independent PTO, reverser on steering column, 8x8 trans, etc. Better in the woods, I thought. I could care less about the electronic gadgetry on the dash, but it will be nice to show off.
I have 75 acres of wood land most of which is mixed hardwood and softwood, and which 20 acres is over mature balsam fir. I plan to clear the 20 acres to allow the seedlings to grow into Christmas trees. I was looking at the Norse 390 winch also, but I had to draw the line somewhere. The dealer wants $2600Cdn with 3 sliders, three 7' foot chokers and 165' cable. A really good deal that I can get later on if I need it.
I also need to keep my 1200 foot driveway in tip top shape and cleared of snow. Here in Nova Scotia, we can usually plan for no snow in August. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Anyway, the price in Canadian dollars for the tractor is $24,500, rear tires loaded and delivered to my door. I'm not sure on the price for the box blade and tiller since I'm trading in a smaller tiller and 4' bush hog but I'm expecting $2000 in the difference. I've been to three Kubota, 1 New Holland and 2 John Deere dealers. I looked at the NH TC30 and the JD4310 and thought the LA3130 was better suited to my needs. The TC30 was too light and the JD was more expensive and the dealers didn't seem interested in selling to me. A little stuck up.
The price will seem outlandish to you American folks who could probably pick up the same thing for about $16000. This price descrepancy has been discussed here and on several other forums and I have yet to find a good explanation. The difference between the US and Canadian dollar today is about 35% but tractors seem to cost about 50% more here. I guess we're just being gouged. Doesn't matter. It's only money. I just want my tractor.
