I have a sight glass leaking on my 1998 L2900 Its the one for checking the transmission fluid level . I'll be changing all my fluids soon and would like to fix this problem , Is this a easy fix or do you have to go deep? Here is problem # 2 , I went to check the engine oil and when I pulled out the dip stick all that was there was the handel, the rest looked as if it had viberated off and into the pan. I have tried a magnet with no luck. I looked under the tractor and there is a shaft that runs under the pan , i'm going to try the magnet when I change the motor oil, there are 2 drain plugs on the pan so maby I'll get lucky and be able to fish it out , if not the pan will have to come down just wonder how much of job to drop the shaft?
Thanks in advance Larry

This shou;d be your sight glass, see atached.
As for the dip stick... it will be laying on the bottom of the pan, if it is in fact in there. Leave it and get a new one. KennyV.

Thanks for the quick responce and the photo of the site glass, it looks like it just screws in, i'll replace the O-ring and that should take care of that problem. As far as the dip stick i'll try the magnet in the drain holes .
Thanks Larry

That sight glass looks real familiar....:) like my L2800.

Don't even think of just replacing the "O" ring, when I replaced mine the plastic was crazed indicating many little cracks.

This part is only 4.00 and while your at it buy two so you have a replacement.

If the guage is on the side of the tractor like mine is you can jack up the ft. of the tractor as high as you can get it and put jack stands under the ft. axle so you won't loose much fluid when replacing it.

Be carefull it is plastic and you can break it real easy so don't over torque it.

Here is a link to my replacement.

I once sat on a used L2900 that was at a dealers lot and was surprised at how similar it was to my L3400. I am confident that there are a lot of things that were basically resurrected from the L2900 design in to the L2800/L3400.

I even found that the fenders were identical - right down to the 5/8" holes that are at the rear or our fenders - beside the flashers.

Good to know that these designs have been in service for a while.

I agree with Kenny, don't worry about the broken dipstick, it will never cause any harm where it is. Just get a new one & you're good to go.
