I'm looking for a sickle bar for my BX2670...

I am wanting one that will cut at about a 45 degree angle, so I guess it has to be driven by a belt?...

Is there a good place to look for one or to attempt to purchase one?...

Brand names?...

Do they run off of the rear or mid PTO?...

Thanks...BCBSLICK :anyone:

Hi BCBSLICK,

Yes, you will want a sickle mower that is belt driven to cut at steep angles. Avoid the sickle mowers that have I think what they call a "pitman" stick. These sickle mowers need to be kept relatively flat not to mention that some are a bear to hook up. Some have clamps that must be set correctly on your lower lift arms.

Only one model comes to mind that you might look for which would be the New Holland 451. I am unsure how much it weighs, but I would think a 5 -6 ft could be ran by your BX.

On a rare occasion I have found several good deals on Massey and New Holland sickle mowers on Craigslist. Sickle mowers are out there, but it all depends on what you want to spend. Most of the belt driven units can get pricey.

Units like the New Holland 451 will run off of the rear PTO which I think would be preferred.

Good luck!

on my L4200, I run a 7 foot A/C 3point that I have mounted a cylinder, I can go 90 degrees up (for trimming along tree lines) down to nearly 90 degrees for cutting steep banks & ditches... It weighs around 900 pounds...
There are some John Deere, New Holland(Ford), and Massey sickles that are belt drive, the lighter ones run a wobble box drive... but I can Not picture even the smallest & lightest one of these field mowers working on a BX...

KennyV is right. I didn't really think about the weight issue. Not having owned a BX I really can't comment in this area to well. I did find a Youtube video of someone running at 5ft sickle mower on a BX25.

After researching your BX and the New Holland 451, I do not think this is a good match as I previously posted. After looking around I found a 5ft Enorossi (spelling) sickle mower that weighs in around 430 pounds. Hopefully this will give you an idea of what they weigh.

Thanks guys…

The information about the bars that are shown in that link indicate 12 hp minimum. That sure wouldn’t be a very big tractor…

I guess a person might have to actually take a look at them and see what the dealer might say also…

My brother-in-law had a small bar on his Kubota—I think the model equivalent to the BX series, but it had the larger/taller tires…

Maybe that makes a difference…

I never got to see the bar as he sold it—said he didn’t know I might be looking for one!...

But, at least they do make them, but whether the BX-2670 is big enough weight wise might be a problem. The lift of the 3-point hitch might be a problem also…

Guess I will just have to keep looking…

I suppose the Kubota dealer might be the best place to start…

Thanks…BCBSLICK
