Does anybody know how many horsepower it takes to run a ford sickle bar mower?I have a 1610d and need one to mow the banks and ditches.

I'm assuming you mean a 7' Ford 501....

I powered my NH 456 with a Ford 1700 and it was fine....I didn't didn't try to mow a hay field with it, I just wanted to see how well it would work. As long as you can keep it from binding up, I think you'll be fine. Sickle mowers are not horse power hogs. Just try it before you buy it.

Actually ,i believe the one I need will cut in any position.The 501 only cuts when down all the way,doesn't it? What model cuts in any position?

Sorry, I can't help you there. My 456 won't go down past horzonal although it will cut when I raise the bar. I'm on flat land.
