Should you trade in your tractor when you buy a new one.

With all the scams going on out there, unless someone brings in cash to buy your tractor, its not worth selling it. But for anyone to walk around with 20-30k in their pocket to a strange setting to do the transaction is getting harder, to say nothing if your the one accepting and counting it out in front of people you may not know. With prices going up on used tractors, is it worth it to trade in your old one at a dealer for a new tractor?

maybe explain more why you're considering a new tractor... there's always a price to pay when trading for new
even with current used market elevated prices, same probably applies to real estate, imho

won't take much homework looking @ the increased new prices lately to see any profit selling used would be far overrun by the new sticker price

I'd try to sell it first, especially this time of year (Spring soon).

people do have funds; I've sold a number of large ticket items the past few years - cleaning out years of accumulated stuff. It's surprising (to me) how much actual cash people must be stashing.

I recently 'traded in' my D110 lawn tractor for my new Z355E z-turn... got A$1200 for the D110, which was more than I expected as I didn't know the market. My Dealership did suggest that I sell it privately but the convenience of trading it, and applying that to the price (+ 'bumper/tow' addition), and having them collect the D110 made everything a lot simpler for me.

No hassles.

I sold a tractor for $6000 more that they allowed for trade in a few yrs and took a cheque . Also bought an excavtor with a cheque if he delivered it and told him if he was worried about the cheque clear it first. Every bodys not a crook I like to have faith in humanity.

Same as cars. Better price if u sell yourself. But less hassle if u just give to the dealer……

it’s a trade off if you sell your tractor yourself you will be able to get more for it then what the dealer will give you but if you do it in exchange the price they give you get subtracted from the new tractor and you don’t pay tax on it and you don’t have the pain of selling it although right now the market is pretty hot …

you could ask for a bank certified check so you don’t have that worry …when i buy something of high value that’s what i do or you give him a receipt for the purchase of sale but you wright as a condition that pick up will only be made once the check is clear.

well i don’t know about the USA i didn’t think of that when i wrote my comment but in canada anything without a PTO and below 60hp on the PTO we pay tax and that’s legal governmental cruelty.
