There are many reasons for a person to not check into this site.

But when an older person is doing a project apparently alone in an out of the way place that could be dangerous for a young person...
Should another older person who knows nothing of the facts raise alarm half way around the world just because of no posts for a couple days?

How or should you try to find someone on the other side of the world that you only know by a screen name?

Uh oh... did you check the member posts to see if he posted on other threads? What is the project/thread?

Send him a PM and ask him to ping you back.

Click on the user name in a thread, a small widow will pop up and click on "view profile" under join date will have last activity. As I write this, you were last here at 3:55 pm today.

In the past, I've contacted a TBN Member who I hadn't heard (no posting activity) from in a while. He's in Alaska and a PM got a response... yes he'd had an accident and was recovering just fine. He appreciated the concern.

There's a major problem with trying to do a "welfare check" on a TBN member, other than PM'ing and hoping on a reply.

It involves the member's profile. In the case that shadetree is referring to, I was able to have a Police welfare check (in this case, a phone call from the Police) performed... BUT only because that member had provided in his profile his actual name and town + State.

Without that information there is little to nothing that can be done.

I well know that people are reluctant to provide too much information on a website; and that's your choice, (Although TBN doesn't ask for your specific mailing address & phone number).

In my own case, I live alone on my property. There's enough information in my profile for a Police welfare check to be performed.

Christ on a crutch, the reason I live at the end of a deadend road all by myself is to get away from the nanny state and anyone that might give a crap about me. The absolute LAST thing I'd want is some well meaning but misdirected TBNer to raise a ruckus because I hadn't posted here for a few days, weeks, months.

Just for the record...

Amen. If the closest person that knows I'm alone and doing something dangerous is on the other side of the state/country/globe/computer-screen, it's cause I don't want to be bothered with someone else being around to distract/pester me. I have faith that I'll not live longer than I'm supposed to, nor will I cease to live any sooner than I'm supposed to.

I find the security on this site should be commended even though it could be helpful to really be able to find someone who never signs in.

That seems just the opposite of Facebook accounts where everything seems to be available to anyone else. Younger Facebook accounts must be more trustful of internet friends than TBN older folks.
