Looking at a 2014 Grand L60 with 36 hours on it so it is basically new for 35K. Machine is obviously mint has R4 tires and the bigger loader, however, I kind of want turf tires but overall not that big of a deal. Dealer also gave me a price of 47k for a new one with the same loader plus it has turf tires and rear window defogger. Is it worth spending the xtra12k for the new one or just spend the money on attachments. Also would you go with a ballast box or wheel weights? I am familiar with Kubota because I previously owned a B3030. Thanks.

The extra money will give you a warranty, just wondering why a 4 year old tractor would only have 36 hours on it?
Was it a demo, or just old stock sitting around?

What model Grand L60? Is one, the other, or both cab models?

Horsepower on L60s ranges from 37-horsepower to 62-horsepower.

Did you consider radial tractor tires?

The warranty argument is valid, but with such low hours, doubt it would be beneficial in this case. You did not mention the specific model? The issue w/ the Kubota line in general is they have become so expensive. Did you mention if this is a dealer sale for the used machine? Also, you will not be able to take advantage of low interest rates w/ a used machine but they now bake into the deal a finance fee. You simply shop for your own finance rate, unless you have cash on hand.

Back to the expense issue, Kubota is the market leader and whatever value they hold used or the price they command new, is simply the privilege of "top dog" status. However other brands are attempting to undercut Kubota and deere. As an example, an RK-55, 55 gross hp tractor, w/ loader, CAB, HST tranny, Yanmar engine, and many premium features, is a hair under $30,000. including an 8 year warranty. That is a huge difference. Since your relationship w/ dealer is outstanding, the used Kubota is likely the wise choice.

NOTE: Has machine been stored inside, UV is hard on tires exposed to the sun.

EDIT: Radial Tires are a silly expenditure unless, 1) you do considerable road travel, or 2) extensive ground cultivation which is an impractical and counterproductive task for any compact tractor.

Since you report this used tractor mowed, suggest R-4's will work fine. I mow my lawn w/ my MX, similar weight, rear mower, and have no issues. If the spring is really, really wet, I use the smaller ford for a few weeks until ground hardens. I did NOT load my R-4's for mowing.

They both are the 62 hp Grand L6060. The tractor was at my dealer and I have a good relationship with them. The previous owner is also another customer of theirs who has more money than god and is always trading in and buying new pieces of equipment from them all the time. The tractor was used just to mow the loader has never been used. Most of the factory plastic is still on the cab interior.

Personally, for $12,000 less I would buy the trade in tractor. You may have more disposable cash than I.

If you intend demanding ground engagement work you will likely want loaded rear tires AND wheel weights to get all 62-horsepower to the ground. The L6060 is only about 4,400 pounds, bare tractor, with a cab, which is light for a 62-horsepower tractor.

To lift max FEL loads of about 2,300 pounds will require around 900 pounds counterbalance mounted on the Three Point Hitch, even with loaded tires and wheel weights. The most common implement for counterbalance is a Box Blade.

I have an L3560 with LA805 Loader. I use a 600 pound Cultipacker, a 730 pound Box Blade or a 850 pound TR3 Rake as Three Point Hitch counterbalance, depending on the potential lift and maneuvering room available. My tractor has a modest 37-horsepower. L3560 rear tires are filled with air.

If an L6060 was equipped with turf tires I think the rear wheels/tires would mostly spin under draft force load.

Jeffy,

OP indicated he prefers turf tires. Does that signal ground engagement for intended tasks?

My L4060 with loaded R4s is a match for weight & traction. The L4060 & L6060 are pretty much the same. Bigger engine & possibly a bigger front axle. They are within a couple hundred lbs of each other. The L6060 can take a bigger loader.

Traction wise you aren't going to get a lot more with the extra 20hp. I wish I had more power for roading (hills mostly) & mowing. I'm often bumping into limits there.

Personally I dont believe in ballast boxes. I built one out of a failed 60 gallon air compressor tank. It just sits. I end up using an impliment instead as I'm likely to use it for its purpose as well as weight.

Happy with the loaded tires. May want to do loaded AND wheel weights for the extra 20hp on a L6060 though.

Lordy - am I ever glad I bought my Tier3 - Kubota M6040, new in 2009. The prices on new Kubotas is as unrealistic as new Ford pickups.

2014 model might not have the emission controls so that’s a major bonus. Sounds like the machine is like new condition. If it was stored indoors and no critters have nests in it you might have a real gem.
