I have a lead on a John Deere 467 baler. 2 years old. 16k bales run thru it. 3K last year, 13K this year. This guy buys a new baler every 2 years. I think I can get it for around $13K. A new 468 is $28K. I would only be baling my own stuff. I need to go watch and hear it run. I would have the JD place look it over before i bought it.

A lot fo bales thru it, but it is only 2 years old.

Set me straight here.

Thanks,
D.

That is indeed a BUNCH of round bales in 2 seasons, especially considering the rather high count this year. WOW! No wonder he buys a new baler every couple years. Still and all, most used balers have a high bale count before they hit the used market. Being relatively new will have some advantages. Safe bet he's asking a little more than a Deere dealer offered in trade.

That guys spent a LOT of time in the field this summer.

You need to check the pickup on that baler. Usually the cams in the pickup need to be changed out around 20-30K and the cam track as well might be worn. You might need a set of belts depending on the wear. You can get OEM belts from other vender's at 2/3 the price of JD. Sandy soil wears on any baler. If it's been baling peanut hay the the pickup will need a overhaul.

OK - all good info. I believe it has been baling coastal.

Even i I have to put some money into it, the price seems right.

Of course now I will need a cutter, dolley and rake. Man, there is no end ot it.

This baler has the bale track pro and coveredge also.

How much do belts run anyway?

Considering it is in good shape, surely $2500 or less ot go thru everything on it - ya figure?

Thanks for all the input. I am going to look at the bale today. I think we are down to $12,500 or so. I hope it is good - it seems likea a gair price. Need a mower and rake next. One of those dolleys also. :)

Don't forget to look at the Bearings in the Belt Rollers-we had two Machines burn down this Year. If not maintained, you will have to buy the Roller too, as the Bearing will gall the Roller. Does it have the MegaWide pickup? Also, I would try and put the new 468 Belts in it-they are stronger. The new (2008) 468 and 568 Balers will have a new square tooth design for Pickup teeth-appears to be stronger (due out this Fall)-they should fit-

It is a megawide. I am not sure I am going to buy it. I don't think they have been maintaining like I think it should. I opened the doors and they could not put another amount of dirt in there - both sides were packed solid. One cylinder was leaking, some bolts were missing on the kicker, the rubber bumpers on the gate were missing, a chain block was gone, some damage on the LF where a chain must have failed, pick up had some teeth missing and one of the plastic housings missing and the bolt in tab was waded up. The belts needed ot be replaced, a piece of the pickup was rubbing on one of them - all it needed to be was tightented. I don't think it has had a grease gun on it in a long time. Even the easy to reach stuff were completely dry. It has 17,434 bales thru it. It was making a nice bale. That coveredge wrap sure is nice.

I think with the apparent lack of maintenance, it is not worth my time even if it is leff than half price of a new one. I know I will need ot dump $2500 or so into it right off the bat and then who knows what else. I going to sleep on it, but I think I will keep looking.

Comments?

Offer him what you think it is worth with all the work required and keep looking if he doesn't like your offer.
