Hi,
After doing some internet research, and test driving a few different brands at local dealerships, I decided a Kubota B2650 TLB best suited my needs. I went back to the local Kubota dealer to work out a price and he didn't really want to budge of retail and explained that he would be losing money at the price I was hoping for. Since, I knew this price was the average of what I have been seeing people pay online, I decided to call another dealer that is 1.5 hours away. It so happens that dealer is one of the largest, they have many Kubota dealerships. The salesman was super responsive and very eager to do business with me. He sent me a very nice email, that I pasted below, that convinced me to purchase from them. They also gave me the price I was hoping for without even discussing a price, that was the price he gave me in the quote.
"Good Afternoon Chris,
I would like to thank you for contacting "Our Dealer" and giving us a chance to earn your business. I have attached the quote for your review. This machine is the B2650HSD with an LA534 loader, quick coupler and 60" quick attach bucket. It would also include the 60" mid mount mower deck, the BH77 backhoe with the subframe and reversing seat mechanism, 16" trenching bucket and the mechanical thumb. We would also be adding an ATI toothbar for the 60" loader bucket. The price that I quoted includes all set up for the implements and accessories as well as fluid filling the rear tires for ballast. I would also deliver this machine to Altoona for you at no additional cost. I am sure that you could call "Local Dealer 1" or "Local Dealer 2", or "Local Dealer 3" and they would match my quote. I ask that you recall that I gave you a fair price without asking what pricing you were quoted. Please understand that you get so much more from "Our Dealer" than just a piece of equipment. We carry more than 12 million dollars of parts inventory at any given time with the ability to ship parts directly to your doorstep. I also live in "Town XYZ" and go to State College and Altoona frequently that I can meet you with maintenance items. Also, please be assured that even though it seems that we would be further away, please know that I sell equipment all over the mid atlantic area and provide unparalleled customer service. Kubota does offer the promotional financing of 0% for 60 months, 0.99% for 72 months, and 1.99% for 84 months all with no money down. Please review my quote and let me know if you have any questions. I would love for the opportunity to earn your business. My cellphone is 123-456-7890.
Thank you,
Salesman X"
After reading this, I thought to myself, ok this guy seems great and really wants to take care of me as a customer. I worked in customer service/sales in the auto industry years ago and I understand a bit about this. This, along with them having built and sold so many tractors, and with 12 million dollars in parts inventory; I thought this would definitely be my best choice and I would have the least problems.
After signing the credit app and making the deal, the salesman wasn't as responsive nor as enthusiastic. Which, I get it, no big deal. Not upset about this. He was hoping, not promised, that the tractor would be delivered before the weekend of June 8th, a week ago. This didn't happen due to some farm emergencies and being busy part of the year. I wasn't upset, I was just excited and was hoping to get some things done over the weekend with it. So at this point, still no big deal, no promises were made. The salesmen said he would deliver it Wednesday the 12th, I work from home, so I made sure I didn't have meeting and of course, I am super excited. I don't hear anything so I call him Wednesday morning and I don't get him. He calls me back later and explains that the hydraulic valve in the back hoe is leaking and that he will try to get a part from another of their dealerships but will likely have to have it delivered on Friday to their shop at 11am, at which point their mechanic will install it. Shouldn't take long and he should be able to deliver it to me Friday evening, today. Which, I don't understand how they don't have a common part on one of their most common tractors in stock with a 12 million dollar parts inventory? So today rolls around and I call him, he doesn't answer. He calls me back later and says the mechanic wasn't able to work on it right away and that it won't be done today and that he would deliver it tomorrow, which is Saturday. I asked him if he could double check and see if it would be done early enough that he could deliver, that this would make me very happy. He calls me back an hour or two later and says the mechanic will stay late to finish it and he will deliver it tomorrow after he gets off work at noon. So this means I will have it at 2:00pm tomorrow. I explained to him that this problem was the exact reason I chose to buy from him, because they had such large inventory and experience.
At this point I am super pissy and upset, I don't convey this to the salesman, because I don't see how that would help anything. If I didn't really need it, if it were a purchase just for entertainment, I would call and cancel it. I was really looking forward to it coming every time it came, I had my father, fiance, and multiple friends message me everyday I was expecting it asking if it came. I took my dad along with me to look at tractors since he grew up on a farm and is really excited about the whole thing, this is a nice opportunity to spend time with him since he is getting older these days, and super nice to see him excited about something. Anyway, at this point, the whole experience is ***** and I don't feel like they really are taking care of it and it's taken all the fun out of the purchase (for now anyway) and for me it's the biggest purchase I have ever made next to a property/house. So this is a HUGE purchase for me. The bummer to me and I would really appreciate some opinions on this; Since I was delayed a few times already, why didn't the loader valve replacement get priority on the mechanics list? Then after another delayed delivery, why is the salesman delivering to me after he gets off work? Shouldn't he do it first thing when gets in?
Am I expecting too much? I am genuinely asking. I feel like either I am full of **** or this is the level of service I would provide so this is what I expect, and maybe this is unreasonable? Why is a back hoe valve leaking/failing on a brand new kubota? I am buying from a big dealer to reap the customer service he mentions in his email, why didn't they just send me another tractor from their lot?
I really would appreciate any feedback and any advice what I should do. Maybe the answer is simply that this is normal and I should patiently wait for deliver tomorrow and hope it shows up?
Thanks
Chris
