My dealer here stripped out the bleed screw on my fuel filter when they rebuilt the injector pump a couple weeks ago. It's back in the shop now because apparently that wasn't the problem and it still won't run very long.
The service manager told me that filter assembly isn't under warranty and I had to pay for it to the tune of over 100 bucks. I told him somebody is going to pay for it but it's not going to be me since they broke it.
Also I found out through some web surfing and phone calls that noone else I can find charges more than 40 bucks for that same exact part number.
He also quoted me 56 dollars for a 26 dollar air filter.
35 dollars for a 14 dollar fuel filter.
60 something dollars for 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid and the list goes on.
I'm never buying anything from them again. It's much easier and cheaper to just order from an online dealer. I advise everyone else to shop around too if you think the parts prices you are buying are too high. The place I'm dealing with must not have heard of the internet or something is all I can figure.
If the difference were only a couple bucks or so then I would support the local dealer but this is highway robbery as far as I'm concerned. I do have some idea what their wholesale prices are too since I have been in the business for years myself. That fuel filter assembly for example only costs them about 22 dollars or so. The cheapest retail I found on it was Messicks at 32.00. That is reasonable for a markup. Over 100 bucks is ridiculous!
Trying to make me pay for things they broke is also just plain wrong. I don't care if it isn't under warranty. It's their responsibility.
