Shock Collar for Dog training

/ Shock Collar for Dog training #41
Dennis,
We have a similar situation where the dogs would give eachother "the look" and take off. If it wasn't for that look they would respond to my commands. I spent the money and bought a Innotek for 2 dogs on one remote. It worked great. You will need to use the controller correctly as they need to understand that the shock comes only when they aren't doing what they should. You'll also have to figure out what level to use for each dog. Ours has 15 levels. 4 is more than enough for the 100lb dog, but I need 7 for the smaller one. You also need to make sure the collars are on good when using them.
The smaller dog initially wouldn't respond to my commands when using the collars because she was busy scratching her neck when it tingled.... That took a little work.

a real training collar will not tingle or tickle the dog..
it will look like hes being tazered..
my collars will immediately stop my dog from any distraction no matter what it is..it will literally immobilize the dog if it stays on long enough

you need a radio fence...i just put one in..works great

radiofence.com

Thanks for the above refernce Bud..........Went there and ordered and should be here tomorrow.....I appreciate their service, guarantee, and advice.........

Surely NOT to be rude to my reply to YOU.....seems you took it that way, so sorry......

I DO NOT want a device that lays them out on the gravel road and leaves them kicking while they regain their senses.........I do want to get their attention which if the one I ordered doesnt do it, then a stronger will be in order. NortracNY and all...........thanks for the advice and help.........I do plan to use it as a positive reinforcement tool, one that gets their attention and makes them "see" what they are doing wrong, and one that says........WHOA PUPPY..........Stop this and straighten up your act...........We shall see.............Dennis

If the dog has to look like it's being tazed to respond to your commands, you're going to have bigger issues down the road.

I've got to ask, what "real" training collar do you own?

Delivered yesterday and they WORK.........
It is truly amazing to see the collar work and the dogs adapt to them so easily. The kind I got has a zapper button, a heavy duty zapper button, and a noise button for me to push. Yes, I can control both dogs from the same remote.

I am using the noise button to teach "come". Yes, they know it well; but when they head out for their little adventures or go visit the neighbors they tend to ignore my verbal commands. NOW what happens is I hit the noise button once or twice and they stop in their tracks and come to me............It took just a VERY few times of verbal, noise button, and then zap to get them to realize that they need to stop and come back to me........When running them next to the RTV they tend to smell or see something and head out for parts unknown.........NOW the command "run" and a zap to reinforce keeps them within perhaps at the most 10 feet of the RTV.........this is fantastic...........

No, it doesnt make them run around with their tail between their legs nor knock them on their tails..........Just having the collar on DOES now tend to bring calm to the outside situation...........God is good......Dennis

Glad to hear to good review:thumbsup:

Depending on how long you leave the collar on the dog each day, make sure you reposition the actual receiver (part that delivers the audible noise and shock) on the dogs neck from time to time.

We tend to leave the collars on from the start of the day to the end of the day, and we found out quickly that if the receiver is left in the exact same position for long periods of time, it can cause some irritation on the dogs neck.

I would also never admit that some times at the end of the day when I take the collars off, I found out that either my wife or I forgot to turn them on in the first place, but the dogs never noticed:eek:

LOL been there, done that. No negative impact from my observations :)

We have 3 BCs and I agree with the opinions that they are too smart and sensitive for a shock collar. you probably already know this since you've got one experienced herder adn one trainee.

Sounds like they're taking off to either 1) get exercise via a long romp or 2) find a job to avoid boredom. I guess if it were my dogs I'd practice taking to the "line" i didn't want them to cross and stopping them with a voice command and then a treat. It helps to make sure they're hungry and already a bit tired before you train them this way.
