Just noticed two large nail pops on a section of my house roof and was wondering what to do. It is a single layer of shingle roof that is about 10 years old and in two places I see a nail is really stressing the shingles what appears to be a good inch or more. Haven't noticed any leakage inside the house but I haven't been into the attic to look, actually it would be hard to get under this area in the attic.

Pull the nails out, fill the gaps with tar, and re-nail next to the old holes. Not too close, though, since the wood is already weak in that area. Then get in the attic and check everywhere for leaks. Replacing a roof is less expensive if you don't need to replace in the interior work along with it...
