I have a compact New Holland Workmaster 33 with a 1.5L 3-cyl. The spec sheet for this model shows it is putting out 32.2 HP, 26 (gear) at the PTO.

The spec sheet for the Workmaster 37 shows this model uses the exact same engine but it is rated at 36.2 HP, 29.6 (gear) at the PTO. In fact, this is the only difference I can see between the two "different" models between the spec sheets. Size, weight, tires, everything else appears exactly the same.

My question is simply this: how are they getting 4/5 more HP out of the same motor and can I achieve the same HP in my model through some modification/adjustments? It might not seem like a lot but a few extra horses would help run a five foot bush hog...

Since they are both turbo, I'd speculate it has to do with boost control, which is quite common technique of controlling power maximum, limit the boost. If that's the case, there will be an adjustment on the turbo that allows an increase. I'm not familiar with tractor turbos, but have dealt with a lot of automotive applications and it's usually a waste-gate adjustment. The purpose of the waste-gate is to dump excess boost to prevent over-boost, or in other words a power governor. There may be some adjustment on the injector system as well since it's diesel, to allow more fuel along with more air.

Welcome to TBN....

My LS has the same Shibaura engine as the Workmaster 37 putting out 36.2HP. The LS XG3032 uses the same engine and puts out 32.2 like yours.
I believe the difference is in the computer ECU programming and fuel settings. Kinda like modern cars of today but the internet sells programmers for cars to boost performance but there are no reasonably priced aftermarket programmers for tractors.

I'd like to bump mine up to 40HP or so but 1) I don't want to touch it since its still under warranty and 2) I don't have access to a programmer to change the ECU settings.
I have not asked my dealer if their LS factory programmer can make these changes but may do so once warranty is over.

Frug & George>> 2 thumbs up!! very well said..
A "problem" w/ adjusting the w-gate is> there are paramiters preset in the ecm/ecu that if adjusted outside of those, it throws a code & might "default" to where you cant use your machine..?? don't know FOR SURE..
IF its OUT of warranty?? Just ask the dealer or mechanic..for advise.
A "dealer" might tell you to buy a bigger machine.. A MECHANIC will tell you HOW TO do it.. just my .02..

Thanks for the information and thoughts on this. It seemed odd to me at the time, and perhaps even more so now, that the 33 and 37 were the same machine (except the HP difference) but with a $3k difference in price. So basically for that additional $3k I would've been paying for a programmed machine with the higher HP output??? Hmmm. My machine is of course under warranty so I am hamstrung on the issue as well. Guess I will get by with it as is and then talk to the mechanic after the warranty runs out. It runs great but with a five footer in thick stuff it can get a little bogged down. I will just kick er down a gear!
