Has anyone had any experience with Sherwin Williams brand concrete basement sealer vs the traditional drylok? A coworker has a pretty decent discount through Sherwin Williams and can get 5 gallons of their sealer for around 90 dollars...which isn't much cheaper then 5 gal of drylok at your big name stores....I don't want to spend this kind of money on a product from Sherwin Williams if I have never heard of before and go through all the efforts of doing the basement and not have it be a decent project when for almost the same price I can purchase drylok.

Thanks.

About 40 yes ago purchased a home that had basement. it was musty moldy and the sump pump ran about every 2 hours. Had a friend that used Sherwin Williams paint he suggested cleaning with bleach then a light coating of the brick with a water sealer then covering the brick with water proof cement like plaster and after dry paint with there brand of sealer and primer. lived there about 8 years and some staining of wall from seepage but sump pump only ran during periods of heavy rains. and floor was all that seeped.

$90 bucks for 5 gal. is cheep just purchased 3 5 gal buckets of S-W primer for little less that $450 bucks.

Interested in what you do. ken

without repeating it over again... http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...h-slip-resistant-post4201580.html#post4201580 more along about "prep work" and may need to do something different pending on product even product products from same manufacture. doesn't matter if concrete block, to poured concrete. double check with manufacture on suggested / required prep work for the surface.

my experience is painting the inside of the basement = ok results. BUT better off putting cash / time into fixing issues on the outside of the house... fixing gutters, digging up around house and re painting outside walls, putting some plastic down a couple feet below ground surface to help slope and run water away from basement walls. completely regrading dirt around house so it slopes away from the house. cutting back or down trees, that likes to clog up gutters. going with larger gutters and down spots to help prevent clogging. installing a french drain in areas to help move the water out and away from the house.

if you do not fix the issue of water on the outside. water can build up pressure underground. and push any sort of sealer painted / sprayed on the inside of the basement off. causing the sealer to flake / bubble on the inside, and have water seeping again back into basement after a couple years. ((no paint on / spray on sealer on inside of basement, going to fix issue, if you have issues on the outside, that should be addressed first))
