LS U5030
I se 2 of these for sale locally by the same seller (used). An SC-25 and a SC-50. $2500 each. The sc-50 is old; 2-digit serial number from 20 years ago. The sc-25 is newer, maybe 10 years old. I have a LS U5030 with 48hp at the PTO, so I naturally gravitate toward the larger sc-50.
My question(s): who has one and what are your overall impressions of the unit? Worth the money? Would you buy again? What else can you tell me?

I have been using a sc25 for years now. Mostly on 25 to 35 hp tractors. I have occasionally used it behind a 90 hp farm tractor. It is easy to get the slip clutch smoking with 90 hp. I could tighten the slip clutch but it is there for a reason, to protect the driveline of the 90 hp. Broke the driveline internally with another implement and $$$ to fix. I think the sc25 is all you want as far as your 48 hp. Things to check on the grinders you are looking at. Of course, your tractor needs 2 rear hydraulic circuits. Some people remove the loader and use the loader circuits. Check the drive shaft and see that it is free of bends and slides full length. Check the gearbox for leaks, proper oil level and lash. Check the slip clutch and free it up like any other slip clutch before use. Check the wheel for balance (run it at 540 pto speed) and the condition of the teeth. The swing hydraulic cylinder will have a one way restricter on one line and check the condition of the hoses.

If you have a cab, it will be difficult to observe the grinder in action and operate the hydraulics. With the smaller tractors, I could stand beside the tire, reach the hydraulics, 3 pt and hst treadle to move and position the grinder.

Start at the nearest portion of the stump, grind it to ground level and work your way back. Think of it as whittling on the stump and cutting pieces up and out, instead of down and in.

If we were buying again, I would look at, I think it is the Woodland Mills wg24, no hydraulics required, simple 3 pt operation, cab compatable with a remote camera and maybe less money than either of these. Although hst is a must. good luck

Interesting about your thoughts on the sc-25 vs. sc-50 for my tractor. The sc-50 is meant for 35-100 pto hp, so I figured that's the one to go for. But, if the sc-25 is going to run more efficiently with my 55hp (48 pto hp), then that's probably what I'll do. I don't have hst.
