Several How-To Questions...

Hello to all,

This is my first post to this forum. I have several fairly simple how-to questions that i'm sure you all will be able to answer easily. They are both related to running a two bottom moldboard plow.

First, I think I need to load the tires with water. I have a tubeless tire on one side & a tubed tire on the other. Is it possible to load both types of tires? And how do I go about loading them with water. Steps please . Oh yeah... There isn't a freezing concern because i'm from NW LA.

The other question I had was how to get the plow set-up correctly. I have 2 coulters in front of a double bottom 16" moldboard plow. What are some of the things I need to be doing to get the plow working the best it can.

I am not really understanding the plow. If you could explain it a little more, i could probably help! Yes i am 15 but i had been on tractors all of my life!:thumbsup: Pictures help alot to

I am sure it's covered in the links mentioned, but simply lift the tire off the ground, remove valve core, and attach water hose to the valve stem (adapter required). Air pressure will gradually build as the tire fills and will need to be bled off during the process. Fill the tires up to about 75%, or enough to cover the rim.
After letting the local Deere dealer fill two rear tires for the small price of only $175, we quickly learned how to do it ourselves!

"Mornin... I've plowed a bit, but certainly no expert on the subject. There are three adjustments on the set-up. First, adjust the 3pt arms so they are level on the first pass. (I start on the concrete for convenience) Then adjust your top link so that the point of the plowshare is slightly lower than the back. This encourages it to dig in when you lower it into the soil. Your coulter slices the sod to allow it to roll over easier. Adjust it so it is a couple of inches above your points. (If you are re plowing a well used field, you might not even need them.) There are adjustments to the draft control, but I've never used them. Start your first pass and fine tune the depth so the tractor doesn't bog down. If the plow is bouncing off the surface, shorten the toplink. If it drags too much, lenghten it. Much depends on the soil. Wet mucky soil will drag harder and you can't go as deep. On the second pass (all passes go same direction) your tire will drop into the furrow left by the plow. Re adjust the 3pt arm so that the plow is level again cause the tire is in the furrow. Keep the check chains on the 3pt arms tight so the plow can't swing side to side. Practice until it's time for a beer. :licking:

Thanks for the help everyone. I'll be trying to find one of those attachments at tractor supply company this evening. We don't have a gempler's anywhere around here so i'd have to order it from there.
