I was just wondering what others here have seen in regards to setup charges on new tractor and attachment purchases. I have a quotes for a 4320 and 4520 Hydro cab tractors which have added in $250.00 Roll on/roll off fee along with $400.00 setup fee. What exactly do they setup for $400.00?

The attachments:

400cx loader - $250.00 setup

MX6 cutter - $100.00 setup

BB2172 Box Blade - $100.00 setup + $77.82 Freight

Are these normal charges?

To be a bit cynical, they set up for greater profit. No such charges when I purchased JD. Probably similar to the non-negotiable "Administrative Fee" that many car stores charge around here.

Negotiable for sure. Those fees are gonna be built in somewhere. I personally dislike having them listed on my docs. It does chafe a guy. Rather they just buried them in the "total", out the door price. Different dealers tend to do things different way. To be sure, it costs to set up. It costs to deliver. It even costs to do the paperwork, filing and open the credit account, etc.

I didn't have any setup/installation/delivery charges shown separately, but of course they had to get paid in some way for those things; just included them in the price of the tractor and implements. But when I later bought a 5' Howse rotary cutter, I think we settled on $50 less than the original price when I told him I'd pick it up (no delivery) and I'd take one that just came in and do the final assembly myself. Doing that assembly/setup may have taken me close to an hour, so $100 for a dealer to do it doesn't sound all that high to me.

The set up is you brother! The entire dealeship is going out to dinner on your dime! :confused2: They better drink a toast to you!:licking:

My dealer delivered my NH TC48DA tractor for free, loaded the rear tires for free, went over the check list, instructed me on driving, and operating the FEL, waxed the tractor. All for free. Plus gave me a rock bottom price on it. Cut the legs out for all other dealers, one by $2500. Sold!

I bought 3 BXs from 2 dealers.
There were no set up charges for any of the attachments or tractors .

Look guys, don't want to start an argument, but there is no free lunch.
The office girl has to be paid, the delivery truck purchased, fueled and insured, the driver paid, the mechanic in the back gets paid to un-crate and assemble. Believe me, we pay for all this, one way or another. Those of you who are business people know all this very well.

What just hacks me, and I am sure most others is this:

OK, mister dealer, I know you have all these expenses. I understand that. When I ask you to give me a quote, put all the stuff in there, in your pricing. That's all fine and good and I shall expect the next quote to compare from another dealer to include his expenses in his profit margin too. I'm not stupid. BUT... Buddy, when we agree on a price, I sure as heck don't want to suddenly have all these nifty nicks start appearing, as "oh, and by the way, there is charge for......" No sir. Give me the out the door price, once and for all. That way, the next quote I get, or if we agree on a price, that is THE PRICE. End of story.

I don't expect "free" anything. I do expect that what the price is, is the price. I have walked away from signings on cars, trucks, boats, etc over stuff like that.

Well,OK,maybe it was in the price of the tractor, but the price never changed, not one penny. The out the door price I was given in December was the same two and a half months later when it was delivered, and that's the way it should be:)
