I just bought a 30 galloon plastic drum and have some questions on setting it up.
1*What do I need to prevent air compressor water from entering the drum?
2*How do I drain any water that accumulates in the bottom of the drum?
3*Does the fuel filter go on the inlet or outlet side of a 12 volt pump?
4*How do I vent it?
5*What are the Pros and Cons of liquid VS Air pumps?

1- A transfer pump, either electric, or hand operated.
2-You don't, you have a screened pickup that you keep off of the bottom
so that it doesn't ingest water. Ideally water shouldn't be present.
3-I have mine on the outlet side.
4-There are vents made for this application that keep the barrel vented but
not open all of the time. I believe they keep a small positive pressure in
barrel.

Try this for a vent cap..http://www.jmesales.com/catalog/index.cfm?iid=18028&cid=1371&sid=jme

1) Keep your air compressor disconnected from it or invest in a high quality water seperator as used by automotive paint shops. They don't want water in the paint.

2) You don't. If you feel the need, you could use up the diesel and then turn the barrel upside down to drain out the scum off the bottom. Your in line filter is also a water seperator.

3) On the outlet. You don't want to suck on a filter.

4) On my barrel with a rotary transfer pump there is enough of a gap in the bunghole connection to vent the barrel as I draw fuel. Before I realized that, I would loosen the smaller 3/4" bung connection when transfering fuel.

I love my barrel system. The barrel was free from the JD dealer and my rotary hand pump was 11$ from HF. 80 easy turns on the crank gets me 5 gallons.
