Was pulling heavy loads yesterday (a usual occurrence) with my 7 yr. old Murray LT and felt the HST straining - smelled hydraulic fluid, so stopped to check. Looks like fluid was spraying out of the top of the rubber "riser tube" - brown rectangle area in pic. Removed the load and tractor ran fine, no unusual noise, but I am concerned about the fluid loss.
I am ordering the Service Manual, but internet research seems to indicate that the HST pump is a "sealed unit", intended to be replaced in whole, not serviced, even though they list the oil. One service document even mentions adding oil, but doesn't indicate where/how.
My question is, how do you add/check the HST fluid? I do not see a filler port/plug other than on the Final Drive (separate from the pump, for gear oil). Maybe via the "riser tube" ?
I will wait for the Manual (have to get the fluid anyway) but was hoping someone here, trusty ol' TBN, may have worked on these before. Would like to at least check the fluid level now.
Thanks in advance!
