Put some serious coin into my 2002 vintage Deere 4210 tractor this fall....new hood (because I was careless with the FEL) new radiator hoses and coolant flush and refill, replaced both hydro filters and fluid, two new front tires, new battery. Air filter, fuel filter, a new tail light bulb...gosh, it cost me close to $900 for everything plus all the work required for a 1215 hour tractor. Would I have been better off buying a new one... Mine has been paid off since late 2005...

Tell me...would YOU buy a new one or keep maintaining your older model? My usage is an average of just under 100 hours a year. I LOVE MY DEERE !!!!

If you like the tractor why would you discuss buying a new one to replace it with??

As long as it's filling your needs what would be the gain in a new one, beyond the payment book??

In that tractor's world, with good maintenance, which I'm sure you have provided, it's just getting broken in. :)

If you love your Deere then you should keep your deere!

Besides deduct the cost of the new hood from the maintenance that was your fault. So spending more time on TBN than seat time (like me) not bad for a 13 year old tractor.

Reason I keep mine is that it's dead reliable...aside from the broken hood, the only REAL repairs needed in all this time has been having the two deck front clevis arms rewelded...fifty bucks. That 4610 looks like to have close to 2500 operating hours on it...

Yep, those are really good tractors, our renters have a 4610 they've had for years, it's missing the hood, but still gets used a lot and will probably still be around when I'm long gone.

I've seen two 43x0 Deeres with over 5000 hours on them. One was a rental, rode hard and put away wet...looked rough, but ran fine. It's not rented any more, but the rental company keeps it around for various chores. The other (4310) belongs to a friend of mine back in PA...no idea hour many hours it has above 5000 since that's about when the hour meter stopped functioning.

No way, don't ever sell it! You can never get it back…

This past summer after ordering a 5075e, I thought about selling my 10yo, 2800 hour 4410 and then reconsidered when I realized it made more sense to keep it since it has a backhoe and the entire set-up isn't worth that much more than a new backhoe for the bigger tractor would cost.

Besides that, the 4000 size tractor is a very useful size. It will do anything if you take the time. Mine hasn't been in the shop since it was one week old. Regular maintenance and lots of grease have served me very well. I upgraded to a 300cx loader several years ago and got almost what that cost when I sold the original 430 loader to a guy in Tennessee.

My hat's off to you for taking pride in keeping your tractor.

Best thing they did was go to those non metal fenders and floor boards...and hood too right? After 15 working years my all steel 4100 is having some serious body work done to it down in my garage right now! ;)

I would keep it. Yours has fairly low hours. I really don't see you gaining a thing by buying a new one except a nice hefty payment each month.:) Seems like the older ones are more reliable anyway.
