Serious Land Clearing

Check this baby out.

<font color="red">It's BIG. 300 U.S. tons, 24 metres long, 6 metres wide with two 270 hp engines. I believe it was made for a land-clearing project in wetlands in Florida in 1957. Can anyone tell who made it, for whom it was made and/or what happened to it? Please reply to; </font>

I thought maybe RG Letourneau may have made the thing but I guess not.

Anyone knows of this rig let us all know.

I'm thinking it was a custom piece of equipment devised for the clearing project for Cape Canaveral. It may still be there - 20 feet down /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

R.G. didn't like tracks so I doubt he did it. He did build some similar machines like the one attached. 175 tons, Two Detroit "buzzing dozen" 12V71's rated at 840hp. Only one of 175 ton machines were built. It still exists up in Canada though it's not used anymore.

My son is going to school down there in Longview right now for mechanical engineering. I have read his book. Pretty amazing guy.

Indeed, an interesting fellow to be sure. I've only read a little about him, but what I have read shows how broad his influence has been on the industry today.
