I have approx 220 acres and during the past few decades used the property for hay production and wildlife management. Recently I was confronted with the totally unwanted medical state of 100% total and permanent disabled. As I deal with the situation, the toughest change I anticipate is losing the ability to perform what I call gentleman farmer duties, such as:fertilize and weedspray the pastures, cut wood, and develop food plots for youth hunters which are enjoying the sport for the first time.

So I write to ask this question, how do I go about determining a fair market value for my equipment, if it becomes necessary to sell? In case someone here has interest, both items where purchased in December, 2005. One item is the MX105 (55hrs) tractor, the other is a KX 71-3 (305 hrs) with hydraulic thumb and two quick connect buckets.

I appreciate your thoughts.

I have no thoughts on the price of your machinery but I want you to know that there are many people on this site who will be pulling for you and praying for you. Hopefully your condition will improve and you'll be able to keep your equipment. Good Luck.

Oh wow, that's a blow! I do hope you are able to regain your abilities.

On your equipment, google the model and find places/people that are selling them. I'm guessing but a decent deal would be 80% of the purchase price (?). Oh, I know! If you call up Steve Carver at Carver Equipment, explain your situation - he probably can give you a very accurate estimate. He used to be quite active on this board and was always very helpful.

Thoughts and prayers,

I'm sorry to hear of your situation.

If the dealer you purchased these from is close, you might see if he will handle selling them for you without taking you to the cleaners.

If it's an issue of you being able to show them to potential buyers, the dealer route might be a solution. He could haul them in, make sure they are in great shape, advertise them, and sell them. I'd like to think that he might do it for a modest fee, covering his expenses of course.

Before I'd discuss it with him, though, I'd get an idea of what others here think the value of your stuff really is.

Best wishes,
ron

I traded in a m95 with loader because I downsized the farm I maintained and went to a m5040. My m95 only had 60 hours on it and I ended up taking about a $7k loss on it. It was cab/air and had almost all the options.

leeinmemphis,

thanks for sharing... sounds like a 20%-30% loss... i wonder if an outright sale instead of a trade in would reduce the loss, assuming a buyer can be found... the reason i am trying to get pricing info is i've allows had Deere equipment and many times when i sold my equipment it actually brought more than i had paid... i guess it might just be the difference in markets and the brands. I should know more in 6-7 months how this will all turn out...

thanks to all for your thoughts and prayers...such a great group of folks!!

RonR,

Thanks for the dealer idea...I did not even think of that option since I had largely sold my equipment on my own every 6 - 8 yrears in the past. Also, I have only had the most recent purchase through them since I had been a Deere operator before.

Thanks for the website info. I checked it out and did find a few similar items for sale. It appears that these are dealer listed only, but will dig into it further.

Thanks again!

sflranchok,
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

The KX 71-3 might be something that you could list on a local Craigslist site. craigslist: san francisco bay area classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events A free version of the local news paper classifieds. I am not sure where you live, but the Boston site for us has things being sold very quickly.
1 hour for my colleague's BX22 with loader and backhoe. 1 hour for my F250 plow truck. The excavator seems like something a local contractor may be interested in. The tractor may be better sold through a site like this or your local dealer. Contractors seem to visit the craigslist site offen.

God Bless.
