Hi everyone,

After looking more closely at the Kioti KB2465, I'm seriously considering selling my Woods BH6000 and getting the Kioti backhoe.

I would have got the KB2465 when I bought my machine 2 years ago, but my dealer thought the Woods was still better than the Kioti model that was currently available. I'm not sure when the Kioti was improved, but there you are.

Anyone with any idea of prices on these items, i.e. the Woods BH6000 has about 25 hours of backhoe time on it and has been kept greased. I'm not sure what a KB2465 would go for, but if any of the dealers would like to PM me with a quote I would appreciate it. Please include the shipping dimensions and weight.

Oh, of course, if anyone has any suggestions as to why not to go this route, please tell me.

Thanks!

Jon

So what's the problem with the Wood's hoe? I thought they had a good reputation.

Good question. It's a fine piece of equipment, no problems, just that the Kioti hoe has a longer reach, more digging force, etc.

Does anyone have experience with both? This is not cut and dried, as to this point I'm only going on written specs and appearances.

Thanks,

Jon

When I purchased my Ck35HST I got the Woods backhoe as it had a great seven postion thumb. It is my understanding that the Woods and Kioti are both very good backhoes. This is my first time trying to send pictures so will see if I did it right.

I can understand the desire for more reach and digging force. But as to digging force I really wonder how accurate or how real life some of those numbers turn out to be. And if they really are better how are they doing it? Bigger cylinders, higher pressure or different mount points on the bucket or such? When looking for a used mini excavator looked at all sorts of numbers and Bobcat had the best numbers on some of the specs. But a person who dealt only with used machines told me the reason their spec was so different was I think the design of the bucket. Now don't go throwing stones at me not saying my memory is correct or his statement. But In having a mount built for my excavator for a cutter we ended up with a different angle and realized different ratios so different breakout force would have to apply if a bucket were changed on mounting location.

I soon learned the machine I bought (Volvo) which had lower specs had all the working breakout my machine needed. Anything more and it would be more than the weight of my machine would be safe with.

What I am saying is if you need more strength in the bucket you may find having one built with different location for the mounts gives you that, or you may find you can adjust your pressure up or something that would not harm your backhoe and save you money.

I know it would upset me to make the trade and it cost me a couple of thousand to find out, very little difference in the field. If the dealer had one I could try and prove the difference then would have interest.

I am trying to post three pictures of my Woods backhoe.

Mousefield: Impressive, thanks for sharing.

KThompson, thanks for the insight.

I did chat with a few others since posting; to tell you the truth I'm looking more at the reach than anything.

I received a price for a new Kioti hoe; it was comparable to my local dealer, so I'm happy that I'm being treated fairly. The quoted cost to trade in one for the other is $3500.00 Cdn; about $3000 USD. Given that saves me the trouble of selling the Woods unit I think I'll proceed.

Cheers,

Jon

The Woods is a very decent BH. The 2465 is very nice too but I personally would not spend an extra $3000 to get one if I had the Woods.

As is usally the case, I agree with Island.

Seems like a lot of money for what I'd expect to be very little meaningful difference.

I'm a big Kioti fan, but that is a lot of money to, in my opinion, largely swap hoes.

I'm one who really likes for the things to match, but if function is almost the same, then $3K would outweigh any benefits in my mind.

$3K can buy some nice implements if its more of a spring spending thing (something I fight hard against and typically loose).

Good luck either way,
Joel

I'd have to go with the others who say 3k is a LOT just to get a little more reach. Plus you won't know until you use it if it will provide what you say you are looking for. I'd want to demo one on my machine BEFORE trading, then decide. You cannot know until you try it in real life and that's a very expensive gamble for possibly little to no gain.
TRY B-fore U buy!

Or spend on other items you may get way more bang for the buck on. Of course dealers will want to do the trade- they will make money on both your trade in and again when they sell your's used.
If you must have more reach consider a 2485, assuming your Ck can handle it- I know they are primarily for the DK series but Kioti may tell you you could use it...(check with a reputable dealer on this issue)....

I'd like you to say why exactly you need to spend $3K for how much more reach and for what type and amount of use you would give the hoe; especially since you have only 25hrs use in 2 years to date!/ Note this is not to be critical of your pending decision- I'm 'playing' devil's advocate to try to save you from whim decision you may regret in long run.
When you go to sell you will not recoup your $3K spent.
