My dad bought a new 2013 Kubota M7040SU (Economy Version) MFWD with the hydraulic shuttle shift about two years ago. He likes the tractor, but it is geared too high for loader work, since his last tractor was a new Holland and it was geared really low and would go at a snail pace. It was much easier to attach implements with the New Holland. With this Kubota being the economy version it also lacked the draft float control, which was nice when mowing or using a grader blade, so he misses this function. Also, the Kubota seems a bit top heavy when mowing on any type slope, but the maneuverability of the Kubota is awesome and it seems to have good power, but not a ton of torque.
He is thinking about selling the Kubota and buying a John Deere. A local farmer is thinking about selling his 2012 John Deere (5075M MFWD and H260 loader) the tractor has about 250 hours on the clock. From what it tells me it is is in very good condition. He is thinking about making the farmer an offer on the tractor, but hasn't made up his mind if he should just stick with the Kubota. He has about 45 acres of pasture land and primarily only bush hogs and uses the loader to move things on the farm.
From what I've read the 5075M is a good tractor, but from what I've read online it starts to develop electrical issues after 300 hours. When he bought the Kubota he wanted the better M7040 version with the bells and whistles, but all he could find was the economy 7040SU version with the Hyd shuttle shift (this is a real nice feature). The Kubota is a simple no thrills tractor, which can be a good thing and it seems the Kubota is a reliable unit.
Would he be stepping down on reliability from going to the Kubota 7040 to the Deere 5075M?
I remember looking at the M series a couple years ago when he was looking at buying the kubota and I do remember they looked very heavy duty built as compared to the Kubota.
One last question, what do you think a fair price would be to offer for a 2012 John Deere 5075M MFWD with an H260 loader (around 250 hours and in very good condition)?
Any other advice would be appreciated.
