How long and what do you guys recommend for seeding, grass or food plots, after mulching?

up in my neck of the woods... Perennial Rye grass is used because it grows in just about anything, grows fast enough to choke out weeds.

last summer we had 1/4 acre cleared out. in the spring we pulled all the stumps out and did a rough grade. I spread a few pounds of perennial Rye grass and 3 weeks later I could have mowed! In September we brought it fill and top soil and did the final grade... I seeded with 3/4 of a paddock mix and 1/4 of perennial rye.

So to answer your question.... seed right away before the weeds and crap start to grow.... and talk to your local seed supplier for the best mix for your application.

I recommend my customers put down seed as soon as I'm finished with my work. The seed will germinate when it's ready.
According to an ag expert that I talked with years ago, a high nitrogen fertilizer will burn the chips down faster and boot the grass. Lime will counter the acidity of the chips.
Don't expect a good stand of grass until the second year if you don't add chemicals.

Do you disk it after seeding or just broadcast?

I just used a broadcast spreader, followed by a tow behind yard dethatcher (that just scratched the surface)

I had about seven acres "Mulched" last August.Planted winter rye right away on two acres(nice crop this spring). On five acres I planted buckwheat just to get something growing.
Spring comes and I hired an excavator to remove the stumps(trees left for firewood),had a friend come in with a large Ag tractor and very heavy disc, helped break down remaining roots and level.
Broke the spring planting into three plots(about 1-1/2 acre each);first is planted into Sun-flower and field peas;second is Sunn Hemp and field peas and a little turnip and radishes;third a heavy planting of buckwheat.
Only the Sun-flower/peas plot was fertilized with 14-14-14.Time will tell.

Seed right after mulching and if it sprouts and then dies in summer heat just put a little more seed on in late summer. Often I tell people to hit it with a broadleaf brush killer such as Crossbow the next spring to keep the brush from coming back and encourage a good grass cover. Once you get that they you can change and grow vetch or alfalfa or whatever you want. Plan sorta depends on the planned use for the area.

How about anyone from the Etown or BG area of KY that can offer some more advice on what to plan after mulching? Or better yet, anyone know of a reputable company that can handle mulching 7ac of very heavy brush and small trees? This will be my first entry in to mulching/planting so I appreciate the posts and help.
