Seatbelt Don\'t Work

My seatbelt has been contankerous in that sometimes you couldn't pull it out far enough to latch it on the other side. Today I couldn't use it at all because it will come out about 6 inches and stop.

Is there anything I can do to the ratchet assembly, or should I just pick up another seatbelt assembly at the dealer? I appears to be held on by one bolt.

Re: Seatbelt Don\'t Work

Alan -- I nearly replaced my belt, but found it was just jammed from some pine needles in the mechanism. Tried to take it off for cleaning, but some sumo wrestler must have torqued down that one bolt! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Finally just blew it clean with compressed air and it's been just fine ever since.

Re: Seatbelt Don\'t Work

Alan, quite some time ago, I posted a message about that problem with the seat belt on my B2710. It's really quite simple to take it off, take it apart and clean it (I just blew the dust out of it with the air hose), and put it back. I had to do that twice to mine. If it gets enough dust in it, it'll start jamming and it's just one of those 10-15 minute jobs you don't really want to stop and do, but simple enough./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Re: Seatbelt Don\'t Work

I get very frustrated with my seat belt. It tends to ratchet down when I use it. Then it is impossible to turn around to check out the implement in back. Now I don't wear it unless I am carrying something heavy and/or am traversing a slope. Is there a fix for this?

Re: Seatbelt Don\'t Work

I removed my seatbelt completley from my 7500. It just kept getting in the way on both sides. My land is pretty flat and I like hopping off my tractor quickly if I want to.

Re: Seatbelt Don\'t Work

Alan,

The belt on my L3010 has been cantankerous too. I recently took it all apart and greased the black plastic disc which disengages the ratchet when the belt is coiled. Here's what I did:

1) Removed long pin under front of seat, lifted seat off seat frame.
2) Removed 4 bolts holding seat frame to tractor, lifted off seat frame.
3) Loosened & removed retainer nut on the frame side of the seat belt assembly. Like Pete said, this sucker is on tight!
4) Removed bolt holding belt assembly to seat frame. This one is tight too.
5) Removed small Phillips-head screw which holds plastic cover over seat belt assembly
6) Removed another Phillips-head screw which holds a gold-colored plate over the seat belt reel.
7) Greased the black plastic disc on one side of the belt reel with silicone grease.

After greasing it's worked like new.
