Hello everybody, Our LA175 was fine until this week when suddenly the deck wont engage...unless you lift your butt OFF, yes OFF the seat but then the engine dies as it should (thats debateable) Tried jumping wires at the seat switch but that doesn't seem to do much...ended up with wires out of loom plug and tried jumping actual harness but still nothing...Any ideas as this is driving me nuts and the grass is growing so fast you can hear it...

Did you replace the seat on the tractor since you last used it?

no...its just as it was the day we brought it home...we just cut the grass...thats whats strange..even tried jumping the rio to see on a long shot if that had something to do with it but I just cant seem to get my finger on it this time..the dealer suggested jumping the seat out( for a test) which should be easy to do but it just doesnt seem to be a simple jumper wire thing...kinda pissin me off but still puttin roof on house so I cant trade right now or I would go find an old good one.Never liked this quality but it does mow the yard...

gale, wanted to also say the seat plug is a 4 blade to the switch but #'s 1 and 2 on the harness are jumpered, so to me its the same as a 3 blade, i.e. feed comes in on 1 w/ short jumper to 2 and 3 and 4 arestand alone... thanks

The logic has reversed some how it sounds like. We changed to a high end seat and had to stand to mow which defeated the purchase of the $300 seat. :)

We had to use the switch off of the OEM seat.

Arcspark, If you know how to function-test the switch, its other contacts may offer either NO or NC operation, depending on what suits the system's particular connection path. (I'll presume that no one (other user) could have scrambled the jumpers (un-beknowned) after attempting to disable the seat switch.)

There could be another switch or a relay not functioning 'within the loop' either shorting or not actuating. (Can we find a schematic for those of us who easily decipher them? Got a pic of the switch?)

If your PTO switch has four terminals it may be NO on one side and NC on the other side (normally open/closed) in each position (two functions/connections). Since one of them could connect to clutch (gear), brake or F/R controls (HST) (btw, "Rube Goldberg, report ..") I'd just test 'em all, including any adjustment, if existing, where they interface with any linkages.
