Went to move my 55 from the garage to get a truck out and found it would shut off when you put it in gear. Checked all the linkages, peeded at the repair manual, totally confused.
Called the service department and they related it is the seat switch as they have had a ton of them fail. We stock quite a few he explained. So... I placed a jumper in the feed and low and behold everything works. Haven't gotten back to the parts dept. to get one but I bet they are not cheap.
If they are having trouble with them ( probably made in X land, low bidder ) one would think they would replace the junk with a working model as a recall item. My machine has 163 hours and is out of the two year warranty. I hope this company didn't have a hand in any of the other electronics.
I read an article where Harley Davidson had japanese electronics for years switch to chineese products. they had so much trouble they recalled them and returned to the former supplier.
Its a shame a few cents cheaper results in so much added misery down the road.

There are many well made (American) varieties of momentary switch that one can use, the key is fit in to the existing system that might need some modification. It is not advisable to do it during the warranty period but after that period there are possibilities.

I'm in the same boat as you Joe. I had my TC48 for about a year when the switch started acting up. When my dealer dropped off my tractor. This is one thing he mentioned. It finally took a year for it to show it's ugly mug. So, I called the dealer and asked him if it would cause a warranty problem if I installed the jumper wire. And he said no. I've had the jumper wire installed since that day and have not had a problem since. And I plan to not ever replace it with a new one. He also told me about all of the problems they were having with the switch and what NH was doing about it :ashamed:.

I have the same problem on my tc34da. Its a 2007 with about 130 hrs on it. I have not been out to look at the wires. Can you guys explain how one would go about hooking up the jumper. If my memory serves me, I thought it was more then 2 wires, but... I am probably wrong.

Thanks in Advance.

I took the old switch out and wired it direct. This confirmed it was the switch. I needed the tractor right away so I left it wired temporarily. The other day I was looking at the old switch and noticed how it looked like a quality built part. Not some plastic representation. I decided to disect it to see what failed. After removing the rubber insulator I noted the two contacts with attached wires. One was soldered.... the other merely wrapped around the contact and apparently not making a good connection. Retrieved the Weller soldering iron, a dab of paste, solder and wouldn't yah know. I'm back in business. Must have been the end of the day or late break for our assembly friend.
I wish all fixes were this easy :)

I just got my tractor out of the garage. I will check that switch out after lunch. I gota figure something out. I sent an email to the dealer... waiting on reply. This would be the only complaint I have with my unit.... and my wife likes it too!
