How do I remove the blade assembly from the briggs output shaft? The retaining bolt came off easily and wasn稚 rusty. However, I have not been able to remove the blade assembly. I have tried using bearing pullers with no success. Have heated the blade assembly where it slips on the shaft while applying pressure with the bearing puller and still no success. Help would be appreciated.

The long story is that the crank shaft bearing has failed and i need to remove the blade assembly in order to determine whether the motor is repairable.

Is there a retaining ring under there somewhere?

I would take the model number, go to the sears part store web site and look at the parts breakdown to see if you've missed a retainer of some sort. Frequently, if something is held on with set screws, its pretty easy to over look the second one. It may be that the assembly is just rusted to the shaft in which case it will require solvents and patience.

Thanks guys! I riddled it out. The blade assembly fits onto the crank shaft and is held in place by a 3/8 fine thread bold. The blade assembly has a bushing that that 3/8巴olt goes through. The bushing has a 7/16 fine thread hole in it. I have seen assemblies like this in the past on my racing karts and simply forgot that all I needed to do was remove the 3/8 bold and screw in a 7/16 bolt and then tighten it with an impact wrench to 菟ress off the has blade assembly. I first had to chase the threads on the 7/16 bushing because I had buggered them up trying to use a gear puller. Once I had the threads back and found a 7/16 fine thread bolt, the blade assembly came right off. Hope this will help someone else in the future.
