had the seal blow on my FECON BH74ss today...lots of lost fluid, etc...

my dealer did have a seal kit to rebuild it...

$95 for a $10 seal and some $1 O-rings. They have ya by the ball$$$

Anyone have a national seal number for that seal? I can make out a few numbers on the inside of the seal, but nothing for certain...

thanks in advance...

All you should have to do is measure the seal mounting hole diameter, sealing surface diameter and seal height, take it to a good parts store and they should be able to look up a seal for you.

I've blown the seal 2 times, both times it was from the case drain couplers breaking. I had a local hydraulic company replace the seal, I think it was $85 with him installing. He normally stocks them but last time I had to wait a few days..I don't know what he would charge for just a seal. I would like to get a few to have on hand.

If you don't notice right a way, you lose a lot of hyd fluid.

Yep- not sure what the exact cause was, but I was using my Fecon on a demo PT-100...ASV and Fecon both thought it was because of a clogged case drain filter- so the ASV dealer gives me a new filter to put on...see what happens tomorrow...when I went to check the fluid level on the PT-100 after I noticed the hyd. oil leaking out from the "tub" under the motor, there was only about a 1/4" of fluid in the sight glass...probably lost 15 gal. or so...

the snap ring that holds the motor and seal on is a bear...I'm meeting up with the Snap-on truck tomorrow at 6:30am and shelling out almost $100 for a set of ratcheting snap ring pliers....

so $95 for a seal kit, prob. $200 for hyd. oil, and $95 for the pilers...not to mention the lost production...sure today wasn't a monday?

A good rexroth model number should work when ordering from a bearing supply house. BUT. As well known as rexroth is and as long as they have been around parts can be hard to find.
I lost the splined couplings from the motor shaft to the belt pulley which would require a new shaft.
Cost to repair would be $2100.00. It would take 10 weeks to get the parts or get a new motor for $4500.00 in a week. I have not recovered yet.

I made a temporary but very effective snap ring remover for this seal by cutting off the tangs on two standard chainsaw files so they just fit through the holes far enough. I had the luxury of having a snap ring out of the motor so I was able to stick the tangs through and then mark how far they would go. Place a socket (just about any socket like a 3/8 drive x 3/4") over the end of the files and grab the files down by the snap ring with a good size pair of pump pliers. The tangs are not brittle like the hard part of the files but use caution. Unless you have the very large snap ring pliers with the ratchet this is hard to beat.

I had the seal start leaking for no apparent reason but replacement only took about a half hour. If you do find the seal number and buy it individually, be sure it is the dark brown material for hydraulic motors as the wheel type seal will leak within minutes.

was talking to Daniel Nissley (Nissley Equipment) who seems to be really good on Fecon issues...he suggested that whenever you have a blown seal its good to pump some grease into the zirc on top of the black bearing housing b/c when the hot hyd. oil blows out of the motor, it often goes through the seal on the bearing housing and melts the grease out of the housing...he suggested putting almost a tube of grease in there or listening to see if you can hear when the housing is getting full (that sort of pop/crackle you can hear when greasing)

also found the 36mm socket I have for my fecon teeth is almost exactly the right diameter for pushing on the new seal- a few taps with a hammer and it sits nicely in the seal housing/plate...go figure

I found the seal from a hydraulic shop- $18 each including shipping...alot nicer than $95...I'll post a part # when I get one off the new box...

well, I blew the seal again...is anyone else on here running a Fecon BH74ss on a PT-100? Have you had seal problems?

I have run my Fecon for 400+ hrs on my ASV 4810 with no seal issues. It was also run for 30-40 hrs on a Bobcat A300 without any seal issues...

the dealer I was renting the PT-100 from had a new pressurized cab PT-100 forestry edition on the lot just calling my name...but not after my recent PT-100 expereince...I think I'll keep on the 4810 for a little while...

Is this the new PT 100 with the higher pump pressures and higher flow? Is the motor sized right for the carrier?

The PT-100 that I rented was the not the new one with the additional 2 gpm pump and higher PSI.

The motor as far as I know on the Fecon is the same for most high flow skid steers- 40Deg. Rexroth 50cc pump.... but I could be wrong... I think they make adjustments on the pulley size when you have really high or really low flow outside the 35-45gpm range. I have been normally running it on my ASV 4810 where I combine the flow...so IN THEORY I'm running 49 GPM at 3200psi. The PT-100 I was running I believe is rated at 38gpm and 3300 psi. So I would guess that the pressure shouldn't be an issue from the pump....but I am by no means a hydraulic pro, so I am happy to be corrected...
