Took a load of aluminum cans and old metal porch railings to the metal recycler yesterday and while we were unloading I saw a large metal table sitting by the "secondaries" pile. I asked how much it would be and they said $0.25/pound. The table weighed 280 pounds so $70 got me this nice, heavy welding table. The top is made of 1/16" steel break formed so that the front and rear edges are rounded, the sides are angle iron, probably 1/8". The legs are heavier gauge. The table is around 7 feet long, and the legs are a little too long making it a little too tall, so I'll have to cut them down, and probably add some cross bracing to stabilize the legs, but overall, I think it was a good deal.
Here's a couple of pics, one of the full table, and the other of the underside reinforcing structure.
