Scotts L2548
New member here. I have an L2548 that lost its steering. The ball/socket style pivot point in the steering mechanism (one of two in the assembly, one for each wheel) became unattached. It looks like the ball might be pressed into the socket when new. There appears to be no other mechanical connection holding this joint toghether.

Has anyone ever had this happen and if so is it repairable? If not is there a site that I can go to with a parts diagram or assembly diagram that shows these types of part numbers?

Mower is dead to me now. Help Please!!!

Thanks
Jeff T.

:welcome:

I take it they are the drag links, and they can be ordered from Deere. The attached shows them and their part numbers. From jdparts site (free registration) that you can also go to. Enter model no. 2548

Beenthere, thanks for the diagram and the site reference. The "drag Link" is exactly what I was looking for.

I put a temporary fix on it that hopefully will get me through until the new link(s) arrive. Are you an expert on these Scotts models from Deere? If so I need some advice on the transmission for the 2548. In particular the loss of power and the grinding noise from the transmission that is present upon start up. It seems to go away (or lessen) when the transmission has warmed up.

Thanks again for the info.

I had a Scotts 17542 that made that noise for years. I always figured it was bearing noise from an idler pulley or loose belt in the drivetrain. I could feel the vibration in the footpedal, not from the tranny. I didn't care enough about the tractor to bother looking for the solution. It gave us 8 years of mowing 2+ acres on semi rough terrain. Broke both drag links by the way. :). When the steering gears failed I set it next to the road with a "scrap" sign on it. Some enterprising young men picked it up within 15 minutes - I bet it's back to mowing again, and making that grinding noise.
