Schaeffer Oil

Has anyone had any experience with Schaeffer oil products? My tractor requires 10W30 and the only place around hear that I can find it is a local dealer who sells Schaeffer. I've spoke to one person who uses it and swares by it, but would like more input. What I've seen on the web is good but I like info from users who have actually used the product. Thanks in advance.

If your tractor manual specifies 10w30, any 5w30 or 0w30 will work, too, and better. The wider range oils just weren't available when the manual on your tractor was written.

Ralph, thanks for the info, the oil they have is actually 5w30. It's suppost to be good stuff but I've herd that before.

I use quite a few schaeffer products in our fleet of trucks they have been a good company to deal with.We use some of ther grease's,trans fld,Syn.trans fld.,and diesel fuel additive's with no complaint's; for several years now.

Just be sure that it is intended for diesel engines. The majority of lighter viscosity engine oils are designed for the API "S" Service category or gas engines. Oils designed for API "C" Commercial category or diesel engines have a more robust additive package than S oils. Most you find will be S oils that also have C certification. The problem is that is not what they were intended for. Buying a oil intended for diesel use will offer much higher levels of protection and longevity. Usually oils intended for diesel use will in addition to having API C ratings will also state on the front of the container that it is intended for diesel engines. Just something to keep in mind.

That may or may not be true. If 10w-30, 5w-30, and 0w-30 were interchangeable, there would be no need for the 3 differing spec's.
The two lower viscosity oils are not widely available in API C ratings. 10w-30 C rated oil should be available from a number of sources, although WalMart and other discount retailers may not stock it.

If the tractor calls for 10W-30, the only substitution I would make would be 15W-40.

So here we go again with the oil 15w40 vs the 30 weight. I brought this question up, Schaeffer Oil, because in my OWNERS manual it says to use 10W30, SAE 30 OR SAE20 depending on climate API of CD/CE. However then I purchased a repair manual for the engine, I just got to read it AFTER I posted this original post, and it calls for 15W40. I really wish the tractor manufacture and engine manufacture would get on the same page. I really don't care which one I use, I just don't want to ruin my engine. Both manuals came from the dealor and have the tractor and engine listed. I'm currently running 15w40. Getting back on topic, I do like what I see with the Schaeffer oils, although now I'm thinking I'll stay with the 15w40. Man I love options

What tractor is it? Why I ask is service manuals are revised as changes or better products become available. My tractor for example calls for SAE30 Diesel rated oil but its now says that 15W40 is the first choice of oil.

I see you have a Mahindra 2810. If this is the tractor you are dealing with why not call the dealer and ask them or go to the specific forum and see what others are using. I am betting 95% are using 15W40 with no issues.

I have a Saturn and its burnt oil since day one. It calls for 5W30 but most run 10W40 to solve this problem. I see many on the Saturn sites with the same engine running 10W40 and 250,000 miles.

10w-30 C rated oil should be available from a number of sources, although WalMart and other discount retailers may not stock it.

Most WalMarts stock diesel rated Shell Rotella T in 10-30.

To the point of the original post, Schaeffer products are quite highly regarded by those in the H-D trucking industry, based on reports at BITOG. It's not readily available, unless you have a stocking dealer nearby, but from what I've read, it's worth looking for.
