Is this a scam? Scam Alert!

Hi,

A buddy was on e-steal last night and saw a kubota for a truly low low low price and called me up. (It's off ebay now...) I sent an email to the lister to confirm that it was a scam and this is the letter from the "scammer". The attachment is the picture of the tractor, loader, box blade, mower deck and trailer...what a deal!

I am very glad to see that you are interested in my tractors .First of all let me introduce myself, my name is Jonathan Sebin and i am the owner of two tractors.As you could see the price for a great 2004 Kubota L-3430 D Tractor and Loader is US $4,600.00 and for a great 2003 L3130 KUBOTA with Loader and Trailer it is US $3,200.00.Both have realy low hours and looks very , very good. Both mowers are included in the prices.


If you are interested in both i can let them go for US $6,800.00 shipping included ,but as i have told you can only buy one of them .

The prices includes all the shipping fees to United States from Italy were i live.Actualy i have moved myself from US two years ago at my relatives in here.

The tractors were bought when i was in US and it has all the reg papers.I bought them from a farm that entered in the banckruft procedure with the intention of using in here ,but unfortunatly the place were i live , Milano is not exactly a place to built and keep a farm.

Both tractors are fully equiped and includs the mowers too.All the registartion papers are in order and they both have clean records.

The tractors are in a perfect cosmetic and engine conditions (always been stored in a heated garage when not in use and meticulously maintained), no liens of any kind and they are ready for work now,as you can see on eBay.

So the shipping fees to Us teritory will be payed by me and as the payment i prefer to use the eBay help because i want to make the deal as fast as possible.

You can see what I meant by low price! There seemed to be a bunch more like this too, so be careful! Never buy before you can verify that the goods are real and remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is!

Interesting that he bought a used 2004 model tractor 2 years ago (2003) when he was still in the US.

Registration papers? In FL, tractors don't need to be registered... I wonder what state requires registration of a tractor?

I'm pretty sure that's the same photo that was in the auction referenced in the "Another eBay Scam" thread currently running. Pretty gutsy(or stupid) to retread the same scam under a different eBay ID...

I saw two similar ads for Kubota BX2200s on E-Bay over the weekend both from people claiming to be located overseas but will ship the tractor to my door for free (priced around $2k).

Then an ad also appeared on Farm Country Trader with a similar offer. For curosity, I sent an inquirand got this answer:

"Hello ,

Please excuse for my late answer but I had some problems with my internet service provider.
First of all I want to tell you that the tractor is still available and the price includes all the shipping costs and insurance, so you wont have to pay any extra charges. The tractor looks like new.It will come with the title, bill of sale signed by me as well and all the papers (including the original manuals and keys) that you will need to register it under your name.I'm selling it at a low price because I've just moved to London,Uk and I don't need a tractor here so for me this tractor is useless.About the payment method I will only accept Western Union because this is the fastest way we can move on with this deal and because like I've just told you I've just moved here in London and don't have a banck account yet.Also you will have 3 days to see it, test it and inspect it, and if you will not keep it, I will refund all your money.Once I receive the payment confirmation,I will start the shipping process.I hope that you will understand my situation.If you agree with these terms, please reply me and I will be more than glad to provide you with further information how to purchase the tractor asap.

The 'other' poster was probably me.

I headed it 'B7800 LA402 loader on EBay'

To follow up I did contact authorities with extreemly frustrating results.

Best they offered was to add to a list of scams as they said they did not have sufficient resourses to persue such frauds.

I was told that they are concentrating efforts on 'public education' rather than investigation.

They said that costs of bringing to trial such international frauds far outweighed the value of the frauds. They quoted airfares and extradition proceedures as examples and said the basically were only after large organized crime groups.
