was running an errand and drove by a lot with trailers on it for sale.

didn't catch the manufacturers name.. but were new units and painted black.

saw a couple 'gooseneck landscape trailers'

these looked like a regular goose neck, but instead had the thin / small 2" angle iron frame and expanded metal flooring. they were tandems.. but the frame looked so anemic on them. they had to be 18 or 20'ers.

I can see it now.

someones gonna buy one and in a few years it will have a wood deck and some ramps added to it, and they will sell that thing to some poor soul who thinks it's a real trailer and puts a tractor on it.

i bet it's got 3500# axles.. :(

That's just plain wrong on so many levels.

if i'm back that waytomorrow I'll take a pic.

I mean.. really. at 25' away.. it looks just like a decent gooseneck trailer.. till you get closer and can see that it really has no under frame!!! and is 2" angle iron, and has the lil 1' raised side rails.. no ibeams down the center.. etc. and i distinctly saw 5 lug wheels so it must be 3500# axles.

again.. someones gonna throw wood on it.. maybee even cut the flimsy side rails off ( that are there to stiffen it up!! ) and then sell the thing.

it'l be like the lil landscape trailers i see with tractors falling thru the beds.. or 6 tree's worth of debri piled on and hanging over, on a truck that has a mangled bumper all bent up with a ball on the bumper.. no reciever hitch even.. bumper will be 2" off the ground, and truck front end will be pointing up.. fishtailing all over the road. :)

them's the guys DOT need to get.. not those of us with a dually and a decent trailer with our own personal tractor on it going to / from our land.. :(

It's a 7k trailer. What's the issue?

it's a 7k trailer with a wire mesh floor and 2" angle iron frame...

it's noting like the 7k trailer I have at home with 3" and 4" angle frame and a wood deck.. yet down the road, some wood is gonna find that deck and it will be toting a 10K load probably.. at least judgingby what I see around here.

PS.. just because it has (2) 3500# axles does not make it a 7k trailer...

I agree! I was sold a "7000#" 16' flatbed with 5" channel frame, (2) 3500# axles, and a 5000# coupler. and new from a USA factory. Didn't catch the 5000# limit until I was repainting the tongue.

Not every 7k needs to be built like a 10 or 12k.

Not every 7k needs to be built like a 10 or 12k.

this one ain't even built like a 7k!!!

that 2" angle iron frame sure ain't gonna do it.

IE.. It's a light duty landscape trailer setting on 7k worth of axles. as it is right now.. anything heavier than a ztr with wide tires will fall thru that floor.

it certaintly wouldn't hold a 3500# tractor setting on it without it folding...

iv'e seen these 2" angle iron special jobs around here.. they bow and flex when people treat them like a 3" / 4" built trailer, reguardless of what axles are under them.

One of the landscape companies around here has a fleet of gooseneck trailers that look just like you describe (except red). I see them all the time going down the road pulled by red trucks. I bet the guy has about 5 outfits like that.

These trailers have their place, but I can see the concern if someone modified one and tries to sell it.

I guess the take home message is to be critical of any used trailer that you buy. Just because it looks like a 7K trailer doesn't mean it is.

Yep.. used trailer market here is weird. mostly, used ones are priced at 75% of new.. and you could be buying 10ys old, bearing and tires ready to go.. loose coupler, bad lights and wireing and worn out brakes.. not to mention.. gotta check that frame.

when i bought my car hauler and goosenect.. I decided to pay 15=20% more and get brand new.. hav not regretted it yet.
