I had not heard about them at all, but I saw a Silverado Hybrid this morning.

How many other pickups come in hybrid?

Guess no all electric ones yet?

W-15 Pickup | Workhorse

The Workhorse W-15 is the first plug-in range extended electric pickup built from the ground up by an OEM. Lithium ion battery cells from Panasonic provide an 80 mile all‑electric range, while the onboard generator works to recharge while driving to get the job done.

Some of those were "mild hybrids" which merely had electrics to stop & quickly restart the engine when it wasn't necessary (many modern cars have this now and aren't called hybrid). Later ones were a more legitimate hybrid and could actually move the car with electricity.

Very interesting company and pickup. They advertise 8 year warrantee on one of their vehicle's batteries(a van type vehicle). Wonder what the cost and battery warrantee is on the W-15.

No full electric vehicles for me other than golf cart and even that is a PIA to keep good batteries in. A hybrid car might be ok since my normal traffic pattern is 50 or so miles on a daily run. When we go visit the kids (grandkids) it is an 8 hour run minimum so no battery car is going to cut it. A hybrid might work but I hear replacing the batteries requires a substantial bank loan to do.
As long as we have gas and oil, I will stick with conventional combustion engines. I hopefully already own my last vehicles anyway.

Boy - isn't that statement - "I hopefully already own my last vehicles anyway" - the truth. Checked on an new F-150 - exactly like my 2005 - bank would be happy to give me a six and a half year loan to buy the thing. Its JUST NOT GOING TO HAPPEN - at least for me. I've got a Jeep, a pickup and my tractor. If it comes down to just the tractor - then so be it. I guess I'm tight, but I'm simply not of a mind set to pay north of 60K for an new pickup.

By God - I'll WALK down the road before I get involved in that highway robbery.

GM had a "mild hybrid" Silverado in 2006, but they bought them all back and crushed them around 2009. They were pretty cool trucks for a contractor, as they had a 110v outlet in the box that would put out ~2500watts IIRC. Mild hybrid in this sense meant they had an alternator of sorts built into the torque converter area that functioned as a starter, so they could start and shut down the engine easily when you stopped. They wouldn't move by battery alone, but rather used it to save idling the engine.

The battery pack was under the back seat (all were extended cab shortbox 1500's). I was told the reason for buyback was that they couldn't find a supplier for replacement battery packs... Don't know if that was really the case or not...

Here's an interesting article on them...

My suv shuts down at a stop light automatically and fires up when you take your foot off the brake. That does not make it a hybrid. Helps save gas though. I suspect this will be required of all cars soon.

I know a guy that travels from Indy to sb every other weekend. He has a Tesla. Had to sit at a charging station for a while to get home. Can稚 make the round trip.

The electric grid can’t support everyone owning an all electric vehicle. The most practical solution I see is everyone having 2 batteries that are easily changed. Then charge the second battery with solar panels while you’re at work. The problem is when you need to go on a longer trip. “Gas stations” will be much less common and high priced since the demand is much less. Btw that’s my take not fact and I know this is a hybrid not an all electric thread.
