my 1985 satoh 35hp approx stallion won't start. the battery is strong, glow plugs heat up, all dash and headlights are very bright, but when you turn the key nothing happens. when you put the shifter in the start position is it a mechanical switch or an electric switch? is it possible the shifter switch is the problem. or should i look for a problem in the ignition key switch? don't know where to start the diagnosis. any ideas? thanks for your help. rich w.

After you double check any safety cut off switches, and make sure main battery cables are good and connections are clean and tight..then start at the starter solenoid trigger wire..when key is turned to start, does trigger wire get voltage? if no.. work back to the ign switch from there..if yes ..you're at the problem..Do you have a repair manual?
thanks tim, as usual the next day i figured it out. there is a "electrical start switch" under the seat behind the shifter 'start position'. the round wire connector had been disconnected accidentally. when you rotate the three point lift position handle to 'lock up' position it catches the wires to the shifter start position and disconnects them. hook them back together and you are good to go! started right up!! thanks again for your imput! rich w

Good detective work w. I had a small issue with the seat switch on my prior tractor, and like you found it and repaired it the next morning..
