Well i welded my sector shaft and it seems to be working fine for now. I'm hoping It lasts at least a year or so before I have to fix it again. Now my only problem is a clutch that works when it wants to. From what ive read its a common occurance for tractors that have been sitting. I have a few questions. 1. Is it possible that the clutch will get better with use? and 2. If I need to replace the clutch, is this the same clutch as a 4 wheel drive unit? 3. Is there anything I can do to help out? I mean as far as lubing clutch parts or whatever without splitting the tractor. I have only about 400 bucks in the tractor and a woods finish mower and the tractor runs great. I'll split it and change the clutch if I have to. Thanks in advance.

to answer question 1. from what i read.when storing tractors for long periods you have to do so with the clutch depressed.there may be a mechanical lever to do this or you may have to rig something to do this.if you dont the clutch would stick together.then you have to haul heavy trailers or drag heavy stuff with the clutch depressed to break it free.once it is broken free it is anyones guess as to how it will work.it may work well.it may not.only the user can say.give a ring to valley power they will be able to help you with parts also schaefer tractors. www.satohparts.com

Im able to use it the way it is but its not the most convenient way to use a tractor and I'm afraid that over time I could do damage to the transmission. Its easy enough to pop out of gear to stop and it will slide right into second gear and take off without grinding. Then sometimes I can push in the clutch and it works great. im just not sure what to do about it, if anything at all.

Are you able to lock your clutch down when you park it? If you're able to free it, it would be good to lock down your cluch pedal when you park it, so you don't have to each time. I have a Satoh Buck, and there's a small swing arm type bracket that you can use to push the clutch pedal in, and swing that bracket over to keep the clutch pedal depressed....sounds like you've got some binding going on, and I understand that may come from moisture in the mechanism. Separating the disc that way when you park it may help you out. I would try that before splitting it.

It seems to be getting better. Its fine for mowing, im just afraid if I try to use something where im changing gears all the time im gonna get frustrated. Im keeping my fingers crossed that it continues to improve.
