Ok folks I have an early 70's Satoh 650g Bison with the 4 cylinder Mazda engine. I had to put new plugs, plug wires, new carburetor, new rotor bug, coil, all the normal stuff on an engine that's set for a year or so. My owners manual tells me to set the crank timing at 16 BTDC and aim the rotor bug at 1 in the distributor. This is NOT my first rodeo, all I can get it to do is back fire through the carburetor...........What gives?...I have brought the #1 up countless times to confirm I am on the compression stroke for setting the distributor.................I am assuming the #1 cylinder on these Mazda 4 bangers is up front, or by chance could the #1 be at the back of the motor?............Why is it not trying to start???...Carburetor backfiring is the clue, help me understand the issue please......I ain't got no more hair left to pull out...lol

Be sure you have wired the cap in the correct rotational order. I hate to admit it, but I've wired cw caps as ccw. Doesn't work at all!
