Removed a brick over sand patio and replaced it with a cement slap to help correct a drainage problem. I'm putting the brick back on top of the cement (a lot easier than on sand!) and am trying to decide the best method for filling the cracks between the bricks. Would there be any advantage, or reason not to, sweep Sakrete into the cracks?

We had problems with weeds wanting to grow between the bricks. Nothing major, but always looking for ways to reduce work. :)

Thanks,

ih farm,I just resently talked to a guy I know that does this type of work about a small patio for me.He said he uses sand with a small amount of masons mix in it.Don,t know if that would still apply going over cement but if I remember I,ll ask him.Dave

stone dust is better than sand if u can find it.

I heard there was a polymer that you could brush in, but havnt used it. I wonder how freeze thaw would effect sakrete, also it would effect how it drains.

Since they are on a solid substrate I would not leave any space between them..i.e., "dry stack" method (only horrizontal).... then use fine sand to stabalize...

we use a dry sand and concrete mix you can add color if you want to .Lay a thin layer where you want the bricks to go ,then lay your brick. Then add more mix on top of the bricks.Use a broom to sweep the mix into the cracks and off the top of the bricks. Then just spray water .It will dry hard in about 24 hours:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I would still bed the pavers on sand and use a plate compactor to firm up the sand base then lay the pavers tight and use concrete sand in the cracks. Has worked out well for me.

Yes, it's called polymeric sand. It works great.

You brush it in, and wet it lightly. It hardens in about 24 hrs.

+1 on the polymeric sand -- comes in different colors and when moistened, sticks together -- straight sakrete will probably crack and crumble over time
