Getting ready to have one of my gooseneck trailers sandblasted and painted. Had a tough time getting anyone that would sandblast and paint the top and the BOTTOM of my all metal low boy trailer. Quotes were all over the place but, no one would even try to lift or tip the trailer to do the belly of my trailer. Corrosion works from both the top and the bottom so, getting both sides done is pretty important to me.

Would appreciate any advice in reference to getting something like this done.

Questions to ask.
Blasting media used?
Things to know?
Ways to ensure what you're getting is what you paid for.
How to protect the wiring harnesses.
What paint to use?
IOWs, I have no idea where to go with this but, I need to get this trailer sand blasted and painted.

Definitely make sure they sandblast the entire structure, top bottom, etc. They will use a coarse grit if they know what they are doing. It will take longer if they don't so I doubt they will make that mistake if they are credible. Inspect the trailer after blasting and before primer/paint. Should be a dull gray fairly even finish. Smooth gray could be primer coat... don't wait to inspect after primer. Primer should be applied soon after blasting (oxidation starts immediately). Best to remove wire harnesses. Should not be a big deal. Take pictures before anything removed. Documentation never hurts. Paints... lots of good stuff out there. Have them spell out the primer/paint after you pick color and google it.

Paint with be industrial Rustoleum, black or red are the options. Don't remember the name of the primer. Said they will take it down to grey/white steal. Will tape or protect the wiring harness. Have to drop the trailer off so, there will be no inspections until I pick it up after it's finished. (Yeah, I'm not real thrilled about that but, I can't wait for two days) Wiring harness removal is not an option, the harness runs through the frame with a huge amount of splits for LED lighting. That wiring harness was a ***** to get assembled and installed. No way it's coming out without a huge amount of work.

That is going to be a biggg job with guarantees. How does the cost compare to a new trailer?

If, the numbers were even close, I surely wouldn't be considering sandblasting and painting.

Any pics of the trailer? I understand if wiring is complicated. Sounds like a nice trailer... and big if they don't want to flip it to prep and paint That concerns me if I was paying a pretty penny. Is it in good condition? Axle(s)?

Sorry, don't have one handy. 20 Ft. goose neck, low boy trailer with five foot dove tail, slide out ramps. Tandem 7K axles. Nothing really special but, she's all mine, paid for and has made me a lot of money transporting. The frame rails are spaced out wide enough that most vehicles will go between the goose neck's uprights allowing vehicles or cargo to hang over both front and rear of the trailer when necessary. One of three different goose necks I use. Full metal tread plate deck. She's custom built. I have transported multiple vehicles (two) many times. It also has a built in tow dolly but, I rarely use it. Just not worth the trouble tp use the two dolly IMHO.

Sorry, don't know how to post pics here. If you really want one, be happy to email you one.

Did not have a lift that would handle a gooseneck. Had a commercial pull behind diesel air compressor, a Lindsey sand blasting pot, and black slag media. Old industrial Rustoleum paint. Had a 74three Bob cat with 48 inch bucket. Used it to cut a 6-7 ft. flat bottomed pit. Threw some plywood down in the field and backed trailer over the pit. Brush painted red iron primer on frame and bottom of deck. Black finish went on with a 1 gallon spray pot.

I had a trailer blasted and painted before. Original paint was about 10 years or so old. They used some epoxy primer and paint on the repaint that held up well. I had new inner fenders welded in at the time because the originals rusted out.. the second set rusted out within 3 years... sold the trailer and don't think I would refurbish another one again. They are easy enough to sell and replace for not much more.

The facility that I am taking the trailer to is near Nashville Tennessee. They have two buildings, one is a sandblasting building, the other is a paint building, they utilize two fork trucks to raise the trailer up in the air.

Reference selling and buying another, this is a custom built Trailer and I could not replace it for double the initial cost and the price for blasting and painting it is by far the best I have found in the two years I have been searching for a vendor. We will see about the quality of the job.
